Green Door Cabaret is a relatively new initiative in Toronto, created and founded by Robert Missen in an effort to revisit and re-explore the glory that is old-fashioned cabarets. Every Friday and Saturday night for the rest of November various musical theatre stars will be featured at The Lower Ossington Theatre performing intimate, original, cabaret style works. One of the first events featured husband and wife team Louise Pitre and Joe Matheson, performing songs they had written themselves for the first time ever. BWW was on hand to check out what the series was about, and also got an exclusive backstage interview with Joe and Louise.
Theatre 20 kicked off it's 2011-2012 concert season on Monday May 9th with The Story Begins, an evening of songs from story driven musicals. Featuring special guest Colm Wilkinson and some of Toronto's best and brightest stars, it was a truly magical evening of amazing musical theatre talent. Tony Award nominated actress (for Mamma Mia) Louise Pitre has been cast to play Rose in the concert production of Gypsy at the Talk Is Free Theater in Barrie, Ontario.
The new season at TIFT will begin on October 22 with the premiere of A Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich and Ivan Nikiforovich Had a Fight, followed by the concert production of Gypsy from November 25 and 26th. Next up is Assassins at the Downtown Theater Jan 21-30.
