Casting Announced For Theater Latte Da's VIOLET at the Guthrie; Previews Begin 2/26/2010

Theater Latté Da today announced casting for Violet, the rarely-produced musical which it will present in the Dowling Studio at the Guthrie, February 26 - March 21, 2010. Under the direction of Theater Latté Da artistic director Peter Rothstein, the production features a score by Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori, the composer whose music brought Tony Kushner's book and lyrics for Caroline, or Change to life. Britta Ollmann - a childhood star of the Children's Theatre Company who originated title roles in Pippi Longstocking, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz - will play the title role. Ollman recently returned to the Twin Cities after completing her studies at New York University and appearing in the Broadway premiere of A Catered Affair.

Guthrie Theater and The Acting Company Announce Complete Casting for ROMEO & JULIET Tour

The Guthrie Theater and The Acting Company (TAC) today announced complete casting for their 2010 co-production and national tour of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Building on the success of their critically acclaimed 2009 production of Henry V, these two nationally recognized theater institutions will again showcase the talents of young performers from their ranks, including graduates of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater B.F.A. Actor Training Program, participants of the Guthrie Experience (GEx), and alumni of The Acting Company.

The Guthrie announced today that its 35th annual production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will receive a new adaptation by Barbara Field, with Gary Gisselman directing the Twin Cities holiday classic for the ninth consecutive season and legendary stage and screen actor Peter Michael Goetz returning to play Ebenezer Scrooge.

Thorson, Armbruster & More Star Guthrie's THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST 9/12-11/8

The Guthrie today announced the complete cast and creative team for director Joe Dowling's upcoming production of Oscar Wilde's most perfect comedy The Importance of Being Earnest, with actress Linda Thorson (best known for her role as Tara King in the classic 1960s British television series 'The Avengers') leading the company as Lady Bracknell.

Black Box Theatre Presents THE CREATURE 10/23 - 11/7

Black Box Theatre presents a one-of-a-kind Halloween experience with the World Premiere of THE CREATURE by Trevor Allen. Rob Melrose directs this new play featuring James Carpenter* (The Creature), Gabriel Marin* (Victor Frankenstein), and Garth Petal (Captain Walton). The design team includes Cassandra Carpenter (costumes) and Cliff Caruthers, who has created an original soundscape for the production. Three generations of Guthrie actors reunite for J.B. Priestley's rollicking comedy When We Are Married. Under the direction of Guthrie associate artistic director John Miller-Stephany (1776, Jane Eyre, The Constant Wife), the show welcomes back many beloved Guthrie company members from the 1960s and 70s, including Barbara Bryne, Helen Carey, Patricia Conolly, Peter Michael Goetz and Linda Kelsey.

NORTHERN LIGHTS/ SOUTHERN CROSS Opens at the Guthrie 10/24

The Guthrie will present Northern Lights/Southern Cross: Tales from the Other Side of the World, an international collaboration between Interact Theater and Australia's Tutti Ensemble, companies both comprised largely of artists with disabilities. An epic tale spanning cultures and hemispheres, acclaimed actor/playwright/storyteller Kevin Kling shares his story of personal growth and rebirth, in the production directed by Interact artistic director Jeanne Calvit, with original music by Tutti Ensemble's Pat Rix. Northern Lights/Southern Cross: Tales from the Other Side of the World will run October 22 - November 8 in the Dowling Studio.
