Brian Friel's Faith Healer opens tonight, October 23 at the Guthrie Theatre with Guthrie director Joe Dowling making his American acting debut in the title role. The production will run through December 6.

Known throughout the United States and Ireland as a preeminent director and scholar of Brian Friel's work, Guthrie Director Joe Dowling returns to his acting roots - making his American acting debut - to play the title role in this powerful play about faith healer Frank Hardy, his wife Grace and talent manager Teddy.

The intimate portrait of these three adults, told through four emotionally stirring monologues, has each describing their own version of the personal and professional bond they share, the astonishing yet unpredictable nature of Frank's ability, and how their lives were forever shaped by a single event. Dowling takes to the stage opposite longtime Guthrie favorites Sally Wingert (Third) and Raye Birk (Scrooge in A Christmas Carol), with Benjamin McGovern serving as associate director.
