Broadway In Chicago's Summer Concert on Monday drew probably the largest crowd for the event I have seen in several years of attendance (and they were definitely a fired-up bunch). Musical theater fans across Chicago clamored to see Broadway In Chicago's showcase of ten upcoming touring shows (with a bonus appearance from HAMILTON's Chris De'Sean Lee, who co-hosted with usual emcee Janet Davies of ABC7). Here's my take on the highlights of the concert and which touring musicals should top your must-see list for the coming season.

Producers Frank Marshall, Mindy Rich, Anita Waxman, and Beth Williams announced the official cast for the pre-Broadway tour and Broadway premiere of Escape to Margaritaville, the new musical featuring the songs of iconic singer-songwriter-author Jimmy Buffett. As previously announced, the musical begins previews on Broadway on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Marquis Theatre (210 West 46th Street), with an official opening night set for Thursday, March 15, 2018. Caesars Entertainment Corporation today announced the completion of a $6.5 million renovation of Flamingo Las Vegas' meeting space, which began in April 2017. Executives commemorated the re-opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett was in Chicago recently where his upcoming musical, Escape to Margaritaville, is set to open at Chicago's Oriental Theatre for a limited engagement this November. 

Folk legends Tom Rush and Livingston Taylor will take the stage at the South Orange Performing Arts Center on Saturday, September 16 at 8 p.m. in a spectacular double bill celebrating the spirit of folk music. Both artists have careers that have seen them celebrated through the decades, and earned them legions of loyal fans. 

Featured performances for the month of July at City Winery Chicago, include political satirists The Capitol Steps on July 2, Dweezil Zappa, son of the late Frank Zappa, on July 7, R&B Grammy-nominated duo Les Nubians on July 10, British rockers The Graham Parker Duo on July 12, Country Music Association Musician of the Year Mac McAnally on July 19, stand-up comedian Sandra Bernhard (July 20-21) and more.

 La Jolla Playhouse's world-premiere productions of Come From Away, featuring book, music and lyrics by David Hein and Irene Sankoff and direction by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, and Indecent, by Paula Vogel, are both up for multiple Tony Awards this season. The Tony Awards ceremony takes place this Sunday, June 11 at 8:00pm, broadcast on CBS.
