THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS will play its final performance on Broadway on Sunday, December 12. The production, which opened October 31 at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street), will have played 49 performances and 29 previews. Previews began on October 7.
THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS is the last collaboration of Broadway songwriting legends John Kander and Fred Ebb. The musical features a book by David Thompson and is directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman.
Yesterday, December 1, John Kander and the Boys visited Borders Book Store in New York to talk all things SCOTTSBORO and sign copies of the Vineyard production cast album. BroadwayWorld was on hand and brings you photo coverage below.

Asolo Repertory Theatre's production of Bonnie & Clyde opened on November 19. Jay Handelman reports in today's Herald-Tribune that the show is heading next to Broadway in August of 2011. The article reports that: 'We're planning to go to Broadway in August. We're going to Broadway, absolutely,' said Jerry Frankel, a veteran Broadway producer who is partnered with Jeffrey Richards. They are represented on Broadway by 'Bloody Blood Andrew Jackson,' 'The Merchant of Venice' with Al Pacino and 'A Life in the Theatre.'

MERCHANT OF VENICE Announces Press Opening; Reviews Embargoed to 11/16

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson), Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel announced today that the new press opening for THE MERCHANT OF VENICE will be Saturday, November 13. So as not to conflict with the Broadway opening of Elf on Sunday, November 14, the producers respectfully request that Merchant reviews be embargoed until Tuesday, November 16.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that none other than Mike Myers (yes, Austin Powers) may step into Kelsey Grammer's role of Georges alongside Harvey Fierstein in LA CAGE AUX FOLLES after Grammer and Douglas Hodge depart the show in February. Writes Riedel: Hodge's co-star, the excellent Kelsey Grammer, is likely to leave the show in February as well, so the hunt is on for a new Georges...Mike Myers is said to be in the mix.'

Four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein is returning to Broadway, starring as Albin in the 2010 Tony Award-winning revival of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. Fierstein won the 1984 Tony Award for writing LA CAGE, but this will be his first time appearing in the show. He will debut on Tuesday, February 15 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street) for a limited run of 12 weeks only. Fierstein's co-star will be announced soon.

BroadwayWorld.com has just confirmed that the Broadway production of David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre, starring Patrick Stewart and T.R. Knight will close on November 28, 2010.
The show opened on October 12th at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 W. 45th St.). Its limited engagement was scheduled to play through January 2nd, 2011.

THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS, the exhilarating new Kander & Ebb musical, opened Sunday, October 31 at the Lyceum Theatre. Since it's celebrated opening, the show has been the target of protests, as was first mentioned on BroadwayWorld.com's Broadway Message Board HERE and is still be debated HERE. One poster calling for a boycott of the show asks: 'When is Racist Terrorism Musical Entertainment? Where is the Song and Dance Musicals about Gas Chambers, World Trade Center or Japanese Internment Camps?'

It was an emotional evening last night as THE MERCHANT OF VENICE celebrated its official opening night on Broadway. On Friday, the show announced that it would push back it's official press opening to accommodate its star, Lily Rabe whose mother, actress sadly Jill Clayburgh passed away at 66 on November 5. Rabe returned to the show on Saturday night. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the after party and brings you photo coverage below.
