Kentwood Players Virtual Theater Series Continues in 2021 with “Three Syllables of Shame,” “Surf’s Up,” “State of Independence” and “Happy and Gay.” Also seeking new Zoom-formatted plays and directors interested in helming future VTS plays, as well as graphic artists interested in submitting a new logo design!

Writer and director Shawn Plunkett wants to fill the void of no theater by taking audiences back to days of live television, just without the in-person studio audience. 'SAFER APART will be performed LIVE so anything can happen, which is one of the major appeals of attending an in-person show. I am aiming to give it a cinematic touch, making sure it is not as static as actors sitting in a chair and just reading a script. We are moving, adjusting, using more than one camera. I will even be walking outside while holding a camera in one scene. And there will be lots of action, made all the more exciting since it is being done live.'

It was a wonderful evening of entertainment, filled with the community theater spirit which has fueled Kentwood Players during its 70 years of presenting quality live theatre in Westchester. This Spotlight focuses on Lyndsay and Jeremy Palmer who met in a theater as teenagers, reconnected in college, then married and have done over 20 productions together in Los Angeles and Denver. But now with the shutdown, everything is on hold for both of them regarding their future production plans.

Kentwood Players, the community theater group based at the Westchester Playhouse, was founded in December 1949 by Jan and Arky Marcom, for whom the group's annual Marcom Masque Awards are named. The first Marcom Masque Awards were presented for the 1957-1958 season with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof winning the award for Best Play. The 2018-2019 season included the following six productions: Match, Daddy's Dyin', Who's Got the Will?, Dangerous Obsession, Disney's The Little Mermaid, Our Town, and Sunday in the Park with George. Awards are determined by all Kentwood Players members who voted by secret ballot in several artistic categories after seeing each show, Season Subscribers, and production teams for all shows.

you are my sunshine - a new play with folk songs …based on a true story by Kelli Kerslake Colaco is a multi-decade (1927-1956) character study of a man of mythic American proportions whose passions and demons lead to tragedy. Narrated in Woody Guthrie-style folk songs - accompanied by Bay Area music favorites Chris Haugen (guitar) and Trevor Marcom (vocals/guitar), the fact-inspired ensemble drama focuses on the search for truth behind a dark family legend vis-a-vis an ancestor and the women and children in his life.

'Cabaret' contrasts love, optimism and naivete with organized bigotry and lust for power. Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, the relationship of Sally Bowles and her American writer Cliff Bradshaw play out in and around the seedy Kit Kat Klub. The twelve-time Tony Award winning musical, 'Cabaret' is loved for iconic songs such as 'Cabaret' and 'Money' along with its multilayer storyline. Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome!

Tonight, January 29 at 7:30, Phamaly Theatre Company premieres its production of the musical The Fantasticks at the Aurora Fox Arts Center, which will run for three weekends before encoring at the Arvada Center for three performances on February 27, 28 and March 1. From there, the NEA-award winning theatre troupe will travel the show for its first international performance in Osaka, Japan at the International Communications Center for Persons with Disabilities-also known as Big-i. Back for the 25th Anniversary season, Phamaly Theatre Company presents its seventh raucous, "differently-abled sketch comedy" with Vox PHAMALIA: Pity Pity Bang Bang. Co-written by Jeremy Palmer, Phamaly's own actors with disabilities and director Edith Weiss, this year features sketches & monologues that are hilarious, touching, edgy and humanizing in their honesty.

Phamaly Theatre Company reprises 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' in celebration of the company's 25th Anniversary, July 10 - August 10 at the Space Theatre in the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

In this week's episode of 'In Focus', host Eden Lane takes viewers along to rehearsal for Phamaly Theatre Company's first-ever holiday presentation, 'It's a Wonderful Life.'
