Reviving the sold-out 2015 production, for the tenth year, renowned fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi will narrate the production. Brad Lubman will conduct Ensemble Signal.

The fourth edition of the festival will again transform the 115-year-old wooden warehouse at Catskill Point into a modern-day dance venue, complete with a stage and raised seating for 300.

Those glorious Dorothy Fields penned lyrics to Jerome Kern's evergreen 'The Way You Look Tonight' bubbled through my head during Kilowatts Dance Theatre's joyful performance of Jaime Shannon's 'Flights and Follys'. It was just a couple of swells dancing with their lady-friends to the type of tunes that Gram and Pops listened to when new; back when 'it weren't no sin' to revel in the unabashed sunshine of life. How wonderful to visit those times again.

Times are hard for choreographers, which is why Elisa Monte, Jennifer Muller, Molissa Fenley, and Margo Sappington have banded together to present their full-length works at New York Live Arts. What one might not be able to afford, four are more than capable of shouldering. While a solid business idea, the results as seen on Wednesday June 15th, 2016 were decidedly uneven. It's not that the works were too different in tone, it's that the quality was rarely of top caliber.

The Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition, April 26-30 at Symphony Space, NYC, ended in grand style with the announcement of medalists and winners of company contracts and school scholarships, and a Gala Performance with performances by guests Daniel Ulbricht and Erica Pereira  of New York City Ballet dancing the Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux (in memory of Violette Verdy, to whom the 2016 competition was dedicated), Washington Ballet's Brooklyn Mack and Ayano Kimura in the pas de deux from Giselle, Act II, and Soo Bin Lee and Seung Hyun Lee dancing the Black Swan pas de deux.

ITALIAN DANCE CONNECTION ('IDACO nyc'), Vanessa Tamburi, Artistic Director announces its 2016 Festival Week, May 24-28, the organization's second annual contemporary dance and art event in NYC. A wide variety of artistic styles await audiences with over 20 dance companies, artists and filmmakers to participate. Dance workshops, creative residencies, thematic roundtables, site specifics, dance performances and an opening event on May 24th at 6pm at the Italian Cultural Institute, 686 Park Av, NYC are included in the Festival week. The beloved ballerina, choreographer, teacher, and writer was an early mentor of VKIBC and Valentina Kozlova.   Ms. Verdy was a judge in the first edition of VKIBC and later a competition honorary chairman.
