KVPAC's Encore Players kicks off their fall 2016 Season with George Reinblatt's Evil Dead, The Musical, a Candian rock musical stage play based on the cult classic film series. Critics have praised the show calling it 'the next Rocky Horror Show'. Directed by Jason Howard, the show opens September 30 and runs through October 1 and 2, 2016.

New York City Children's Theater kicked off its 20th anniversary with the sold out, critically acclaimed musical Wringer, which the New York Times called 'fun from beginning to end' with 'a clever script, catchy tunes, and fine performances.' The celebration continues with four productions in the 2016-17 season and the expansion of the company's membership program, NYCCT's latest effort in bringing affordable, high-quality theater to kids and their families.

Gideon Productions will proudly present at The Sheen Center (18 Bleecker Street between Bowery and Lafayette) - UNIVERSAL ROBOTS, a science fiction epic from acclaimed playwright Mac Rogers (The Honeycomb Trilogy; The Message Podcast) inspired by Karel Capek's seminal 1921 play R.U.R. The production, directed byJordana Williams (The Honeycomb Trilogy; Asymmetric at 59E59), will run June 3-26 with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 2pm, and Monday at 8pm with additional performances on Wednesday, June 15 & 22 at 8pm. James C. Nicholson Wins Kentucky's Literary Award

University Press of Kentucky author James C. Nicholson has been named as the recipient of the Southern Kentucky Book Fest's Kentucky Literary Award for his book The Kentucky Derby: How the Run for the Roses Became America's Premier Sporting Event. First awarded in 2003, the Kentucky Literary Award is a celebration of Kentucky literature. Eligible books include those written by Kentuckians or books with a substantial Kentucky theme. The award is given to fiction and nonfiction titles in alternating years. Nicholson was announced at the "Meet the Authors" event held on April 19, the evening before the Southern Kentucky Book Fest. This year, two other UPK titles were named among the five finalists, including A Few Honest Words: The Kentucky Roots of Popular Music by Jason Howard and Arab and Jewish Women in Kentucky: Stories of Accommodation and Audacity by Nora Rose Moosnick.
