Last night, the 2016-2017 class of Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellows presented excerpts of full length works at Playwrights Horizons at 7:00 PM. This presentation caps off a year spent working under the tutelage of Michael Korie (Grey Gardens), Laurence O' Keefe (Heathers), Diana Son (Stop Kiss).

Theatre Now New York presented its 4th Annual festival of new musicals, Sound Bites 4.0 (sponsored by Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical Productions) to a sold-out house at the Perishing Square Signature Theatre. An after-party was held in the theatre lobby where awards were given. Sound Bites showcases ten 10-minute musicals or musical excerpts in one evening.

This week The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop presented its top works in this year's showcase. The event was held at The Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater in New York City and premiered performances of the best of songs written and composed by recent members of this Drama League, Drama Desk and Tony honored workshop. Joining them will be Kennedy Caughell (Elphaba understudy in Wicked national tour, American Idiot national tour), Christiana Cole (Laurie Partridge in off-Broadway The Bardy Bunch), Chris Critelli (Xanadu - Chicago), Kaleigh Cronin (Sally Bowles understudy and Lulu in Cabaret on Broadway, Lorraine in Jersey Boys national tour), Kellie Cullinan, Will Hammons (Figaro in The Barber of Seville at Lyric Opera of New York), Spencer Kiely (Spring Awakening regional premiere), Laura Kleinbaum, Joel Perez (Fun Home on Broadway, In The Heights national tour), Aaron Phillips (primary vocalist for Disney In Concert national tour), and Stephanie Torns (Elphaba understudy in Wicked on Broadway, Elphaba standby in Wicked national tour).

'Lady and the Vamp' celebrates female musical theatre songwriters. This concert showcases today's female composers and lyricists, with the goal of visibility and gender equality in musical theatre. These ladies are 'breaking the glissando ceiling' in an evening of wine, women, and song.

Produced and created by Bobby Cronin, INSPIRED is a benefit concert series for animal rescue organizations across the country that will play every other month, with a rotating line-up of some of today's exciting musical theatre writers in a casual and intimate setting as they sit behind the piano and, unlike traditional concerts of their material, perform songs by other writers that have inspired their work. The INSPIRED series hopes to spread the word about the 2.7 million adoptable animals that are euthanized each year in America.

On December 22 (11:30pm), 54 Below will welcome past American Idiots, New York's Indie Rock Band Hey Guy, Montclair State Musical theater Alumni, and more for SPREAD THE CHEER, LET'S GIVE THIS YEAR- a concert to benefit the American Red Cross and disaster relief in the Phillipines.

On July 15th Sparkification Productions presents An Evening Celebrating Emerging Female Composers: a concert to promote gender parity in musical theatre. The concert will feature the songs of Jennifer Lucy Cook, Shoshana Greenberg, Kathryn Hathaway, Janine McGuire, Julia Meinwald, Nicky Phillips and Sarah M. Underwood with contributions by Carmel Dean, Laura Kleinbaum, Tina Lear, Gordon Leary, Jeffery Dennis Smith, and Stephanie Smith. Performers include Erin Davie, Lesli Margherita, Christiane Noll, Alice Ripley, Krysta Rodriguez, Betsy Wolfe, and more to be announced. The evening features Musical Direction by Mary-­?Mitchell Campbell.
