BWW Review: Timely New Play HUMAN INTEREST STORY Focuses on Homelessness, Celebrity W Photo BWW Review: Timely New Play HUMAN INTEREST STORY Focuses on Homelessness, Celebrity Worship and Truth in American Journalism
by Shari Barrett - Feb 24, 2020

This thought-provoking testament to the universal struggle of living day-to-day in a society whose apathy seems to know no bounds for the down-and-out will grab your attention and keep you at the edge of your seat as Jane Doe's story unfolds. Tanya Alexander's magnificent ability to morph herself from a homeless woman in dirty clothing, sitting on a park bench holding a sign stating a?oeI am NOT Invisiblea?? allows us to see where she has been and how much she really desires to pick herself up by her bootstraps and do whatever is necessary to survive. As she achieves celebrity status, Alexander opens to heart and soul and lets us see into Jane Doe's guilt of having survived when others have not. And as Jane Doe's fortunes rise, Alexander is costumed to perfection in lovely, form-fitting dresses designed by Shon LeBlanc that would allow Jane Doe to shine anywhere.

by Jerri Shafer - Oct 16, 2019

Set in 2016, the ghosts of two ex Civil War soldiers, Alex (the Yank) and Web (the Confederate), are still inhabiting the old, dilapidated farm house on their abandoned turkey farm in Central Ohio. These men have lived through much of gay history and have had wonderful adventures and a great romance. Their quasi-existence is interrupted by the sudden arrival of a man and woman dragging into their home a sixteen year old lesbian, entrusted to their care by her parents with the hope that they can “pray away the gay” and turn her into a 'happy heterosexual'. Should Alex and Web get involved even if it means their permanent disappearance after over 150 years? Of course the answer is yes. Based on true events and real people, The Turkey Men, is filled with humor, romance, and pathos. Previews on October 16th & 17th, performances from Oct. 18th thru the 26th 2019 at the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Avenue, Columbus, OH 43215. Arthur Miller's landmark play has gripped audiences for nearly 65 years, but couldn't be more timely in today's political environment. The McCarthy-era drama, set in Puritan Salem, paints a portrait of a paranoid, litigious society power-hungry and gripped by misguided moralism and predicts, among many things, the era of Donald Trump. The story focuses on a young farmer, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife's arrest for witchcraft The Crucible performs October 12th thru 22nd at the Columbus Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Avenue, Columbus, OH 43215.
