SHOWTIME has announced that the third season of its drama series THE CHI, which will feature series creator and Emmy® winner Lena Waithe (Queen & Slim, Boomerang) in a multi-episode arc as a Chicago mayoral candidate, will debut on Sunday, July 5 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The announcement was made today by Gary Levine, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc., at the Television Critics Association's Winter Press Tour.
Luke James, La La Anthony and Lil Rel Howery to Guest Star on Showtime Drama Series THE CHI

Two-time Grammy(R) nominee Luke James (Star, Little), La La Anthony (Power) and Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Bird Box) have signed on to guest star in multiple episodes of the third season of the SHOWTIME drama series THE CHI. In addition, writer Justin Hillian (Snowfall) has been named showrunner and executive producer this season. Birgundi Baker (Empire, Chicago Med), who plays Kiesha, has been upped to a series regular. THE CHI is currently in production in Chicago and will return to the network in 2020.
American Black Film Festival Presents Community Day Showcase, June 16

The 23rd annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF), in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), will close out its Festival with the annual Community Day Showcase on Sunday, June 16, 2019 at the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theatre, located in Overtown. The day includes a screening of films selected from the Festival's Social Impact Showcase, a conversation with Steven Caple, Jr., and a collection of short films created by Miami based student filmmakers.

Created and executive produced by Emmy® winner Lena Waithe (Boomerang, Master of None) and executive produced by Academy Award®, Emmy and Golden Globe® winner Common (Selma), THE CHI is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. The cast includes Jason Mitchell (Mudbound, Straight Outta Compton), Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (Queen of Katwe), Jacob Latimore (Sleight), Alex Hibbert (Moonlight), Yolonda Ross (Treme) and Armando Riesco (Bull). The second season is currently airing Sundays at 10 p.m. PT/ET.

Francis and the Lights to Headline The SHOWTIME House at SXSW

Today, SHOWTIME announced that Francis and the Lights will headline the music line-up at The SHOWTIME House on Monday, March 11 at South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference and Festivals, located at Clive Bar on Rainey Street. Monday's performance is part of The SHOWTIME House Of Music, celebrating music documentaries SHANGRI-LA and WU-TANG CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN, with curated music inspired by Rick Rubin. That night will also feature a DJ performance by Peanut Butter Wolf. Francis And The Lights is featured in the work-in-progress documentary SHANGRI-LA about legendary music producer Rick Rubin, screening that same day at 2:45 p.m. at the Paramount Theater.

Continuing its tradition of elevating exceptional storytelling rooted in today's global film communities, the 18th annual Festival will showcase debut works from emerging talent and new works from notable filmmakers. The program includes discoveries, comedies, music-centered, political and social films. The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 24 - May 5.
