The Sounds Of The Pipe Organ Comes To Chicago's North Shore This Month

The sounds of the pipe organ, hailed as 'the king of instruments' by composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will reverberate throughout Chicago's northern suburbs at public concerts June 25-28, 2023, during the American Guild of Organists' Great Lakes Regional Convention, hosted in Evanston by the AGO's North Shore Chapter.

Kent Tritle Announces Spring 2023 Season

A Musica Sacra program spotlighting works by women composers spanning 500 years (April 18, 2023); the world premiere of a setting of the Stabat Mater for soloists, chorus, organ, and orchestra by David Briggs at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, which will be livestreamed free of charge (March 8, 2023), and Bach's Mass in B Minor with the Oratorio Society of New York (May 8, 2023) are highlights of the spring 2023 season of Kent Tritle, who is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Music Director of both the Oratorio Society of New York, the acclaimed volunteer ensemble, and Musica Sacra, New York's elite professional chorus.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), presents Sunday evening organ recitals under the direction of Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music and Organist. From iconic works of J. S. Bach, to the mystical harmonies of Jeanne Demessieux and Maurice Duruflé, to new compositions by our own Cathedral organists, these programs explore a diverse array of musical traditions inside the Gothic interior of our Cathedral.

Harpsichordist And Guest Director Francesco Corti Makes Tafelmusik Debut With BACH'S LIBRARY

Making his Tafelmusik debut this season as guest director is harpsichordist Francesco Corti, “a powerhouse of unbridled vivacity, exciting and excitable in equal measure” (BBC Music Magazine). Corti leads the orchestra in Bach's Library, a fascinating program of music by J. S. Bach and those who inspired him, including Steffani, Hasse, and Zelenka—composers whose manuscripts would have been part of his personal library.
