On Saturday April 27th, 2019, the 3rd Annual NJ Junior Theater Celebration is set to take place at Harrington Middle School in Mt. Laurel, NJ at 9am in the school's auditorium. Based on a program designed and created by iTheatrics, a leading musical theater education company based in NYC, the Celebration brings together high schools, middle schools, elementary schools, and community organizations from all over the region to perform selections from their musicals for adjudication, attend workshops, and celebrate their artistic accomplishments. Leading the workshops and adjudication will be the team from iTheatrics, who also lead similar Celebrations in both Charlotte, NC and Buffalo, NY. (more...)

Following a US tour and run in Japan, Big League Productions proudly presented the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning singular sensation, A CHORUS LINE in Shanghai, China.  The 2019 engagement, which premiered at the top venue in China for musicals, Shanghai Culture Square, featured Michael Bennett's original Broadway direction and choreography, as recreated by original cast member Baayork Lee. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced today that Broadway, film, and television star Rosie O'Donnell will play Mrs. Paroo in the Broadway Center Stage production of Meredith Willson's The Music Man. O'Donnell joins Tony Award® nominee Norm Lewis (Porgy and Bess) as Harold Hill and Tony Award®–winning actress Jessie Mueller (Waitress, Carousel, Beautiful) as Marian Paroo in the starry semi-staged concert production directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful, Broadway Center Stage: How to Succeed…) with choreography by Chris Bailey (Jerry Springer: The Opera, The New Yorkers at Encores!) and music direction by James Moore (Miss Saigon, the Kennedy Center's Follies and Ragtime). An evening of unsung and new songs as well as hits by Stephen Schwartz will be performed at a Orphaned Songs for Orphaned Starfish a special benefit evening for The Orphaned Starfish Foundation.  This one night only show will be Monday, November 19th at 7:00 pm at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32nd Street, NYC. The musical evening will have performances by Stephen Schwartz and Tony Award winners and Broadway stars to be announced.  Musical Director is Michael Lavine, and Paul Kreppel is the Concert Director, with Host Scott Coulter and the Creator is Carol de Giere.   (more...)

As we approach TONY Awards weekend, we thought we'd catch up with Broadway veteran Baayork Lee, who last week proudly brought her National Asian Artists Project (NAAP) Chorus to the Lillian Booth Actors Home of The Actors Fund, in Engelwood, NJ, on Thursday, May 31. The revered Fund's Home takes care of our own in the industry, whether actor, stagehand, usher, company manager, producer, etc. The Chorus loves going there. This was their second year and, next year, they hope to go twice a year, as it's such a satisfying exchange on both sides. Among the many residents of interest are Fran Liebergall, former assistant to Marvin Hamlisch and Billy Porter's Mom, Cloerinda Ford. (more...)
