The film, which explores the life and work of the 15th century artist Leonardo da Vinci, is Burns's first non-American subject. It also marks a significant change in the team's filmmaking style, which includes using split screens with images, video and sound from different periods to further contextualize Leonardo's art and scientific explorations.
Comedian Russell Daniels (Gutenberg! The Musical) will re-board the ship of dreams as Ruth, and Elliott Mattox (Beetlejuice) will join as Victor Garber. See who else is starring in this production and learn how to purchase tickets.
GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter and musician Gregory Alan Isakov will continue his headline tour through this summer including newly confirmed shows at Des Moines' Val Air Ballroom, Milwaukee's Riverside Theater, Columbus' KEMBA Live! and New Haven's College Street Music Hall among others. Olney Theatre Center's Roberts Mainstage is presenting Ken Ludwig's 'Lend Me a Soprano' through March 10. This is a reimagining (by the author) of Ludwig's Tony-winning farce 'Lend Me a Tenor,' a staple of professional, community, and school theatres nationwide...which I've somehow never seen. As the change in the title suggests, the production is gender-swapped; the male roles in the original are female in the new version and vice versa. Having not seen the original, I cannot speak to the difference in effect in the new version, but can only evaluate 'Soprano' on its own merits...and it has many merits.
Grammy-nominated guitarist Joe Bonamassa has announced his 'Blues Deluxe Tour' this summer, including a stop at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center on August 14. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 16 at 10 AM.
The script is rich with scientific banter, repetitive and very talky. The running time with intermission exceeds 2-½ hours but the show flies by thanks to Salomon’s brisk direction and the tremendous performances of the three actors. Do not dissuade yourself from seeing this production based on the script’s complexities. This is a wonderful production with interesting characters that provides a different perspective to the nuclear arms race during World War II.
Usher took over Super Bowl LVIII with a Vegas-inspired halftime show. The show featured special guests Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Will.i.am, Lil Jon and Ludacris. Watch Usher perform hit songs like “Caught Up,” “Love in this Club,” 'Burn,' and more. The video also features a nod to Usher's role as Billy Flynn in Chicago on Broadway.
Adirondack Theatre Festival (ATF) capped its 30th Anniversary “Pep Rally” Saturday with a surprise double announcement: the unveiling of its summer lineup plus “Stories Start Here,” the biggest independent fundraising campaign in the company’s history. Learn more about the season lineup here!
As Brian Ganz nears the conclusion of his “Extreme Chopin Quest” to play all 250 of Chopin’s works he will offer “Chopin the Virtuoso,” at The Music Center at Strathmore at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.
Several things rush to mind in the thoughts of the prolific theatre-goer when a Neil Simon production is promised: smart & funny being chiefly amongst them. Both are on tap at Desert Theatreworks in their current production of Simon’s “Plaza Suite”. A collection of three vignette scenes connected only by locale, Room 719 of Manhattan’s once opulent Plaza Hotel, and the ramifications of love (gaining it, losing it and being frankly terrified by it).
Sacramento is brimming with new works in theatre this month, and one play that I am particularly looking forward to is by former Sacramento-based playwright James Van Eaton. The premiere of his Oscar Wilde-inspired An Honest Apology will be performed at FreeFall Stage beginning with their annual Valentine’s Day Dessert on February 14th. BroadwayWorld spoke to James about feminism, video games, and all things Wilde.
Chicago Children's Theatre's 2023-24 season finale will be a celebration of the same joyful energy that launched the company nearly 20 years ago, A Year with Frog and Toad. Learn more about the production here!
