Justin Matthew Sargent , the new web-slinging superhero in Broadway's SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, sang the National Anthem at the sold-out preseason game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Miami Heat last night at the Barclays Center. Sargent's performance of the Anthem lead directly into a 10 minute ceremony during which the Nets retired the No. 5 jersey of Jason Kidd, one of the franchise's best players and new coach, to the rafters. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, last month, Daniel Curry, an actor from SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK was tragically injured during a performance of the accident-plagued Broadway musical. On August 15, the performance was halted and audience members sent home after a piece of equipment pinned an actor's leg underneath it, causing the injury.
During the 'back-to-school' period, Spider-Man is giving free limited edition Spider-Man Turn off The Dark backpacks. Some backpacks have a 'golden ticket' that gives them backstage access to meet cast members and have a backstage tour. This weekend two lucky winners were taken back and met Green Goblin and others, and took a tour.
