SPIDER-MAN Swings Off Broadway, Part One: The Beginning - Inception, Rumors & Rehearsals

Today's edition of 'SPIDER-MAN Swings Off Broadway' focuses on the show's beginnings, recalling Spidey's journey from its inception in April 2007, until previews began at the Foxwoods Theater on November 28, 2010. For over three years, rumors circulated about the comic book hero's trip to Broadway, and after a major cast shuffle and a few initial production delays, the first version of the musical at last performed for Broadway audiences.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, the Broadway spectacular that defied odds and expectations to conquer New York, will play its final performance at the Foxwoods Theatre on January 4, 2014. Since the announcement, there has been speculation as to whether the show, which ran for 3 years on Broadway, will make it to the infamous wall of flops at Joe Allen (326 West 46th Street).

SPIDER-MAN to Open at Steve Wynn's Encore Theatre in Las Vegas?

Now according to the Las Vegas Sun, Wynn is making space for the musical at the Encore Theatre. Robin Leach writes: 'I can safely confirm Steve's "very serious interest" in moving the high-flying spectacular to open in his Encore Theater in a year, but nothing is apparently yet signed and sealed. He's prepared to financially back its revamped version, adding incredible, stunning Las Vegas elements to the extravaganza.'

Celebrating his newly-published memoir, Song of Spider-Man - The Inside Story of The Most Controversial Musical in Broadway History, writer Glen Berger visits THEATER TALK for a in-depth two-part interview about alliances forged and allegiances broken during the creation of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Berger worked for 5 years to co-author the musical's original book with the show's controversial director, Julie Taymor, and remained on board to rewrite the show (with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa) once Taymor was fired from the project in early 2011, prompting New York Post journalist Michael Riedel to refer to him as "Judas" in his column.

SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK Teams with Givenik to Participate in New York Cares Annual Coat Drive

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will partner with Givenik.com to participate in New York Cares Annual Coat Drive. When patrons purchase tickets to the high-flying Broadway spectacular through Givenik.com during the months of November and December, 5% of the total sale will be donated to New York Cares. Additionally, the Foxwoods Theatre will serve as a New York Cares Coat Drive public collection site. Now through December 31, 2013 patrons are encouraged to drop off coats outside the box office at 213 West 42ndStreet between 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., and during show hours on performance days.

SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, the Broadway spectacular that defied odds and expectations to conquer New York, is moving to Las Vegas, the entertainment capital of the world. Additional information on the upcoming Las Vegas production will be announced in the weeks to come. SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark is currently the 16th highest grossing Broadway production of all time, having taken in more than $200 million at the box office. The show has been seen by approximately two million fans, and will have played 1,268 performances by the time it takes its final bow at the Foxwoods Theatre.

SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK to Close in January 2014?

The Wall Street Journal reports that SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK will be switching off the lights in January 2014. 'People familiar with the matter' told the WSJ that the announcement will be made this week. Variety has also independently confirmed the show's January closing.

Gene Simmons Offered Role of 'Green Goblin' in SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK!

KISS bass guitarist and vocalist Gene Simmons Tweeted today: 'Thank you, Michael Cohl for offering me the role of the Green Goblin on the Broadway production of #spiderman', along with a picture of the villain.
