Like any great art form, musical theatre is shaped by the events and philosophies of the day. The strength and vitality of musical theatre lie in its ability to stay fresh and relevant. It was with that idea in mind, ten years ago, that the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) was created - to provide an effective platform to introduce new shows, new perspectives, and new blood into the musical theatre canon. The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) 2015 celebrated its official opening night earlier this week on Tuesday, July 7th, at the Liberty Theater. The event runs through July 27th, 2015. BroadwayWorld has photos from the opening festivities below!

Mannyville LLC and Dramatic Question Theatre in association with the New York Musical Theatre Festival will present the premiere of Manuel versus The Statue of Liberty with book by Noemi de la Puente, music by David Davila & Howard Post, Lyrics by Noemi de la Puente & David Davila with direction by Jose Zayas, choreography by Sidney Erik Wright and musical direction by Karl Hedrick. The new musical will play at the 2015 NYMF from July 21 -27 at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street).

Dallas playwright Ruth Cantrell's new play, REMNANTS OF A DREAM will receive a staged reading on November 3rd with Lone Star Theatre Co. The play is presented as part of Lone Star Theatre Co.'s on-going TEXAS READS series.

A new production of Michael John LaChiusa's 2003 Off-Broadway musical Little Fish begins performances tonight, September 24th at The June Havoc Theatre for a run through September 27th.

The full cast has been announced for a new production of Michael John LaChiusa's 2003 Off-Broadway musical Little Fish that will begin performances September 24th at The June Havoc Theatre for a run through September 27th. The cast will be lead by Christina DeCicco (Evita, Spiderman-Turn Off The Dark, Wicked) and will be featuring Alli Foss, Michael Di Liberto, Ashley Campana, Will Erat, Ashley Klanac, John D. Haggerty, Gil Perez-Abraham & Jeanne Tinker.

The music, a soulful fusion of R&B, gospel, and musical theatre exquisitely sews together quick humor with alarming tragedy. Appealing to lovers of Greek drama and good music alike, Pyre Cantata is a fiery new twist on a centuries-old myth.

Transcendent Ensemble Theatre Company, a New York-based experimental theatre company, will present their inaugural production of a new adaptation of Shakespeare's TITUS ANDRONICUS at The Kraine Theatre located at 85 East 4th Street (between 2nd & Bowery) tonight, September 6th, 7th, 13th, & 14th at 7:30pm and September 8th & 15th at 2:00pm.

Kansas City Repertory Theatre's artistic director Eric Rosen has cast Broadway musical veteran Wallace Smith as the Leading Player in the Rep's production of Pippin. Rosen will direct the musical, which runs tonight, September 14-October 7. Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark's Chase Brock will choreograph and Curtis Moore is musical director.
