Banff Centre Commissions 12 New Works By Canadian And International Composers This Summer

Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity is proud to commission an extraordinary 12 new works by Canadian and international composers as part of its 2018 Summer Music program - a series of three unique residencies designed by co-artistic directors, world-class musicians Claire Chase and Steven Schick. All 12 new works will be given their world premieres by Summer Music program participants, alongside faculty and guest artists, over the course of seven concerts starting in June 2018. American Composers Orchestra Continues 40th Anniversary Season With DREAMSCAPES

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) continues its 2017-2018 season, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, with Dreamscapes, on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 7:30pm at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (57th St. and 7th Ave.).

On Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 7:30pm, Bang on a Can will present the 2018 Bang on a Can People's Commissioning Fund concert, one of the most anticipated and reliable launching pads for composers in New York and beyond, as part of Kaufman Music Center's Ecstatic Music Festival at Merkin Concert Hall (Kaufman Music Center, 129 W. 67th St.).

Sexual harassment allegations have now hit the visual art world. Art Forum co-publisher Knight Landesman has resigned amid several allegations. More women have come forward. An open letter, begun by 10 members of a Whats App group, grew to 125 people within 24 hours, has been signed by luminaries including Cindy Sherman, Laurie Anderson, Lynn Nottage, Phyllida Barlow, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Tania Bruguera, and Jenny Holzer, whose work Abuse of Power Comes as No Surprise is on the landing page for the letter. Now, over 5,000 women have signed the letter to stop these practices.

Orpheus Opens Season with Andre Watts Tour and Vijay Iyer Premieres

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra opens its 2017-2018 season on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 8:00 p.m, presenting a performance in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. The orchestra is joined by virtuoso pianist Andr Watts for Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 9, K. 271 Jeunehomme. The program also includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, and the New York premiere of Vijay Iyer's Asunder.

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) announces its complete 2017-2018 season, Dreamscapes, under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel, Music Director George Manahan, and President Edward Yim, featuring ten world, U.S., and New York premieres by a diverse set of composers. ACO continues its concerts at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall (December 8, 2017 and April 6, 2018) while expanding its presence in New York to include performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center (November 7, 2017) and as part of the 2018 PROTOTYPE Festival (January 12-14, 2018). ACO continues to take its commitment to fostering new work beyond the stage in its annual Underwood New Music Readings (June 21 and 22, 2018) for emerging composers, now in its 27th year, and through EarShot, the National Orchestra Composition Discovery Network, which brings the Readings experience to orchestras across the country.
