South African Lion King performer Nhlanhla Ndlovu surprised the entire cast of Disney's The Lion King and his girlfriend, fellow cast member Daniela Cobb, by proposing on stage last night at the Auditorium Theatre in Rochester, NY.

Disney's The Lion King is celebrating a record breaking engagement which ended on Sunday, December 15.  The triumphant two-week premiere engagement grossed more than $2.4 million at the box office and entertained more than 32,000 theatergoers.  The production, which played 16 performances at North Charleston Performing Arts Center from December 4 through December 15, broke the box office record for the highest gross and most attended show ever in North Charleston Performing Arts Center's history.

Disney's The Lion King international tour performs before Hong Kong audiences for the very first time and it's extra special because the Tony Award-winning musical is staged at the AsiaWorld Expo Arena (yes in an arena!).

Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue, will present its 45th annual Thunderbird American Dancers Dance Concert and Pow Wow from January 24 to February 2, 2019. There will be dances, stories and traditional music from Native Peoples of the Northeast, Southwest and Great Plains regions. The event, emceed by Bessie-winner Louis Mofsie (Hopi/Winnebago), has become a treasured New York tradition for celebrating our diversity by honoring the culture of our first Americans.

Disney's The Lion King will leap onto RBTL's Auditorium Theatre stage on Thursday, December 19 for a three-week engagement through Sunday, January 5.

Disney Theatrical Productions and Omaha Performing Arts are thrilled to announce that tickets for the long-awaited return engagement of Disney's The Lion King go on sale to the public Thursday, December 5, 2019.  The Lion King will leap onto Omaha's Orpheum Theater stage on April 15, 2020 for a four-week engagement through May 10, 2020.

The American Dance Festival (ADF) will present the 2020 Samuel H. Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement to acclaimed choreographer Shen Wei. Established in 1981 by Samuel H. Scripps, the annual award honors choreographers who have dedicated their lives and talent to the creation of modern dance. Shen Wei will be in residence at ADF during the 2020 season working on his latest ADF commission set on ADF students. ADF Director Emeritus Charles L. Reinhart will present the $50,000 award in a brief ceremony on Thursday, July 23rd at 8:00pm, prior to the Footprints performance in Reynolds Industries Theater.

Disney's The Lion King and Broadway Grand Rapids are celebrating a record breaking sold-out engagement which ended on Sunday, December 1. The triumphant two-week premiere engagement grossed more than $2.9 million at the box office and entertained more than 35,000 theatergoers. The production, which played 16 performances at DeVos Hall from November 20 through December 1, broke the box office sales record for a two-week touring Broadway engagement in Grand Rapids.

Performances for Disney's The Lion King at North Charleston Performing Arts Center begin on Wednesday, December 4 for a two-week engagement through Sunday, December 15.

Rochester's world-renowned Garth Fagan Dance presents its exciting 2019 Home Season just in time for the holidays: December 11 a?" 15 at Nazareth College Arts Center (4245 East Avenue, 14618)'s Callahan Theatre. Home for the Holidays performances are: Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. A meet-and-greet in the lobby with the entire company will follow each performance.

The 2019 KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival broke attendance records again, this time with upwards of 100,000 visitors a?" more than 25% over last year's estimated 78,000. Ticket sales were also the highest ever.

The Lion King will leap onto the Aronoff Center stage on January 8 for a four-week engagement through February 2.

I can't quite explain why this is the most successful musical of all time, but I can't deny that it works.
