More than 400 women -- leaders of industry, media, government and the arts -- attended the Citymeals-on-Wheels 28th Annual 'Power Lunch for Women' at The Plaza Hotel on November 21, 2014. This by-invitation-only benefit, emceed by Emmy-winning co-hosts of the 4th Hour of The Today Show Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, raised $1.26 million -- enough to provide 196,000 meals for New York's homebound elderly. This morning, the Met Orchestra and supporters rallied in Dante Park in front of Lincoln Center before resuming federally mediated negotiations under a 72-hour threat of lockout imposed by opera manager Peter Gelb. The musicians and other Met Opera artists and craftspeople, along with elected officials in NYC and the New York Times in an editorial, have called on Peter Gelb to continue negotiating in good faith and lift his threat of lockout, which Gelb has extended to 72-hours past the contract deadline expiring at midnight last night.

NYC Parks Cuts the Ribbon on Newly Improved Highbridge Rec Center

On Monday, May 5, NYC Parks First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanagh joined Congress Member Charles Rangel, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, City Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Community Board 12 District Manager Ebenezer Smith, and Joel Towers, Executive Dean of Parsons The New School for Design, to cut the ribbon on the newly restored Highbridge Recreation Center in Northern Manhattan. The Highbridge Recreation Center, located on Amsterdam Avenue and West 173rd Street, underwent extensive renovations during the past three years, and NYC Parks and community partner organizations celebrated the center's re-opening with a day of free sports, fitness and educational activities for children and adults of all ages.

Ballet Hispanico raised more than $1 million in support of the company's artistic and educational work in New York City and around the country at their 2014 Gala on Monday, April 7, 2014. During the evening, Ballet Hispanico proudly honored the Ford Foundation with the Civic Inspiration Award. Proceeds from the evening, which totaled over $1 million, will benefit the creation of new Company works, need-based financial aid and merit scholarships in the Ballet Hispanico School of Dance, and community arts education programs.

This weekend, New Yorkers brought their Christmas trees to over 80 locations across the city for the 18th annual MulchFest. NYC Parks, partnering with the Department of Sanitation, GreeNYC, and numerous community organizations, provides New Yorkers with the opportunity to mulch their Christmas trees into wood chips that will be used to nourish parks and gardens throughout the city. Summer in Little Italy will officially start on Saturday, May 25, with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 12 Noon marking the opening of the Mulberry Street Pedestrian Mall, it was announced by Ralph Tramontana, President of the Little Ital Merchants Association (LIMA) which has operated the Mall since its creation 25 years ago. The ceremony will take place at the corner of Mulberry and Canal Streets.
