8th Annual Rita And Burton Goldberg MFA Playwrights Festival Comes to Hunter College

Wednesday, May 8, 2019 kicks off the eighth annual Rita and Burton Goldberg MFA Playwrights Festival at Hunter College. Under the leadership of Annie Baker and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Hunter's MFA Playwriting Program features intensive, hands-on writing workshops that foster a tight-knit, supportive community of artists committed to challenging assumptions about what theater is and will become.

Taylor Louderman, Will Swenson, Mamie Parris, Ann Harada, Jason Gotay, Laura Michelle Kelly and More Announced For THE MUNY's 101st Season

BroadwayWorld has learned that The Muny announced today 25 principal cast members for the first season of its second century. Complete company casting will be announced throughout April and May. The 101st season opens on a brand new, state-of-the-art stage with Muny favorite Guys and Dolls followed by the U.S. regional premiere of Kinky Boots. The season continues with 1776, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Footloose and a newly-reimagined Lerner and Loewe's Paint Your Wagon. Season 101 closes with the highly-anticipated Muny debut of Roald Dahl's Matilda.

Amas Musical Theatre's Rosetta LeNoire Musical Theatre Academy will present Pippin, the multiple Tony Award-winning musical (1972, original and 2013, revival) with book by Roger O. Hirson, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

Hunter Theater Project Presents Isabella Rossellini In LINK LINK CIRCUS

Hunter College president Jennifer J. Rabb announced today that Hunter Theater Project will present Golden Globe Award-winning actress-filmmaker Isabella Rossellini in her one-woman, one-dog theatrical evening, Link Link Circus. The production will play April 18 through May 3, 2019 for 14 performances only at the Frederick Loewe Theatre at Hunter College, East 68th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues. Tickets ($42, $15 for students with ID, with no service charge) are available starting Wednesday, March 20 at noon at www.huntertheaterproject.org.

Amy Herzog and Heidi Schreck Named Co-Recipients of the Horton Foote Award

The Dramatists Guild of America is proud to announce they will present the 2019 Horton Foote Playwriting Award to playwrights Amy Herzog and Heidi Schreck at the Dramatists Guild's annual awards presentations in July. The Richenthal Foundation is again sponsoring the award. Each writer will receive a $12,500 prize.

NYU Steinhardt Revives Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE

NYU Steinhardt's Program in Vocal Performance will present The Magic Flute from April 4-7. Mozart's last opera-one of the most frequently performed operas of all time-is a fairytale-like story exploring the opposing ideals that characterized the Age of Enlightenment. The NYU Steinhardt production has updated the opera with transformed characters that represent the political and social ideas of 1960s America.

Near the end of My Fair Lady, the transformed heroine Eliza Doolittle shares an insight about her experience: 'The difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she is treated.'
