Aurora Extends TROUBLE IN MIND, Through 10/3

Critics and audiences alike all seem to have TROUBLE IN MIND. Aurora Theatre Company announces that it will add an additional six performances of its current hit production of TROUBLE IN MIND, Alice Childress' vibrant, humorous, and heartbreaking look at racism through the lens of the theater. Robin Stanton (Speech & Debate, Betrayed, Permanent Collection) directs this play about race, identity, and opportunity, featuring Bay Area favorite Margo Hall in her Aurora Theatre Company debut, along with Tim Kniffin, Rhonnie Washington, Elizabeth Carter, Michael Ray Wisely, Earll Kingston, Patrick Russell, Jon Gentry, and Melissa Quine. TROUBLE IN MIND plays at the Aurora Theatre in Berkeley now through October 3 (added performances: September 28, 7pm, September 29, 8pm, September 30, 8pm, October 1, 8pm, October 2, 8pm, October 3, 2pm). La Razon Blindada Comes to 24th Street Theater 9/18-11/7

Coming next month, La Razón Blindada, a co-production in association with el Instituto de Cultura de Baja California, Mexico and La Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa, Mexico will be making its US premiere at 24th Street! La Razón Blindada stars Jesus Castaños-Chima, Arturo Diaz de Sandy, and Tony Duran, and is directed by famed Latin American director Aristides Vargas.

Aurora Theatre Company continues its 19th season with the Bay Area Premiere of acclaimed writer and actor David Cale's new solo play PALOMINO. The San Francisco Chronicle declared Cale 'a spellbinder,' noting that as 'fascinating as he is to watch, and exquisite as his verbal imagery can be, it is Cale's gifts as a storyteller that hold an audience rapt.' ATC Opens Season with BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS, 10/7

Ginger Rogers danced her way into our hearts in the arms of Fred Astaire, setting the gold standard for grace and elegance on the silver screen. In her surprising true-life story, we follow her from the vaudeville stage at the age of 15 through her ascension to Hollywood goddess. BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS tells the story of this legendary dancer, singer and actress through the music of some of the 20th century's greatest composers and with plenty of dance numbers worthy of the Hollywood icon. BACKWARDS IN HIGH HEELS plays in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art from September 10 through October 2. It continues its run in Phoenix at the Herberger Theater Center from October 7 through October 24. The Tucson media sponsors for the 2010-2011 season are Tucson Lifestyle, KGUN9 and MIX-FM. Matthew Lutton directs a cast of seven diverse performers including John Gaden, Ewen Leslie and Belinda McClory in Louise Fox's new adaptation of Franz Kafka's novel, The Trial. The indefinable, elusive and mysterious power of Kafka's wit, clowning, farce and obsession with the erotic is mined to the full in Sydney Theatre Company's partnership with Malthouse Melbourne and Perth's ThinIce. Performances at Sydney's Wharf 1 commence on 9 September 2010, opening 14 September.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces GAP Directors

Berkeley's Aurora Theatre Company announces the directors for the company's sixth Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works: Aurora Theatre Company Artistic Director chose Allen McKelvey, M. Graham Smith, Jonathan Spector, and Tracy Ward to sit on this year's GAP Director's Council. Over the next several weeks, the directors, along with Ross, will select finalists from an international pool of play submissions dealing with global age concerns. Four plays will be chosen to be presented as staged readings during the GAP festival, scheduled for February of 2011. The GAP festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged World Premiere of 2010 GAP finalist Allison Moore's new comedy, COLLAPSE, the second main stage production to develop from the GAP.

Midtown International Theatre Festival's Eleventh Annual Season Closes

The Midtown International Theatre Festival (MITF) announces the 2010 Season, running from July 12 - August 1, 2010. 24 plays and five musicals have been chosen. All tickets are $18. Selected plays for SHORT SUBJECTS, a division for plays that run under 60 minutes, will be announced at a later date.

Aurora Theater Company Announces Call for GAP Submissions, Deadline Today

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company is proud to announce a call for submissions for its sixth season of the Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works. The company will choose four new plays to be presented as staged readings with professional directors and actors during the GAP festival in February of 2011; the festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged World Premiere of 2010 GAP finalist Allison Moore's new comedy, COLLAPSE, the second main stage production to develop from the GAP.

Annual Lincoln Center Festival Continues with Ermon & Ramona, Edgard Varèse, et al. Thru 7/25

Nigel Redden, Director of the Lincoln Center Festival, which runs from July 7 through July 25, 2010, today announced the Festival's line-up, which includes ten North American, U.S., and New York premieres, and debuts. The Festival will unfold in seven venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus, including two major theater events on Governors Island-the North American premiere of Peter Stein's 12-hour marathon production of Dostoyevsky's The Demons (also known as The Possessed) and the North American premiere of Toneelgroep Amsterdam's production of Pier Paolo Pasolini's searing Teorema, adapted and staged by Ivo van Hove.

Closing Aurora Theatre Company's 18th season is the Bay Area Premiere of Stephen Karam's fiercely funny SPEECH & DEBATE.
