Adapting his production from Euripides' Medea and Greek Mythology, and using Japanese Butoh Dance and original texts, Yokko brings the spirit of Medea to life. This fusion of Eastern dance and Western drama invites the audience inside Medea's dark and desperate struggle. Trapped in the underworld, she is forever cursed to relive her tragic journey through love, hate, and ultimate loss. Butoh Medea runs June 8- 20, at  Stephanie Feury Studio Theatre - 5636 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA.

Cherry Lane Theatre Presents FIRST LOVE By Charles Mee

Cherry Lane Theatre (Seri Lawrence, Janio Marrero, Co-Artistic Directors) is proud to announce that Academy Award nominee Michael O'Keefe and Angelina Fiordellisi will star in its upcoming Founder's Project presentation of Charles Mee's FIRST LOVE, directed by Kim Weild. Performances will begin on June 7, the production will open on June 14 and run through July 8 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street). JoAnne Akalaitis Returns To The Guthrie With World Premiere Of BAD NEWS! I WAS THERE…

The Guthrie Theater (Joseph Haj, artistic director) announced it will present BAD NEWS! i was there… created and directed by JoAnne Akalaitis with Kate Atwell, Greg Taubman and Ashley Tata with original music and sound by Bruce Odland. Playing June 2-3, 2018, for four performances only, this unique theater experience will take place in the Guthrie lobbies in promenade style, which requires patrons to stand and walk during the performance. A limited number of chairs will be available for accessible seating.

The Artistic Home Announces 2018-19 Season

The Artistic Home Ensemble will present the Chicago premiere of Lauren Gunderson's ADA AND THE ENGINE as the final entry in its three-play 2018-19 season, according to company Artistic Director Kathy Scambiatterra, who announced the season today. The 36-year-old Gunderson was the most-produced playwright in America during 2017, according to American Theatre Magazine.

National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 80th Rolling World Premiere (RWP): Red Bike by Caridad Svich. The Roll includes Member Theaters PYGmalion Productions (April 20-May 5 in Salt Lake City), Simpatico Theatre (June 6-24 in Philadelphia), Know Theatre of Cincinnati (January 11-February 2, 2019), and The Wilbury Theatre Group (April 11-21, 2019 in Providence). Red Bike was presented at NNPN's 2017 National Showcase of New Plays, hosted by Orlando Shakespeare Theatre.

Apollo's Fire Brings Monteverdi's L'Orfeo To Ann Arbor, Berkeley And Sonoma In April 2018

After a critically acclaimed East Coast Tour last month which included a Carnegie Hall debut on March 22, Apollo's Fire launches a new production of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (Orpheus in the Underworld) starting on April 13 in Cleveland. Conducted by founding artistic director Jeannette Sorrell and directed by British stage director Sophie Daneman, the semi-staged production will include a historically reconstructed version of the work's original ending, as well as period dancers, digital scenic projections, and a stellar cast of singers. Apollo's Fire will present Monteverdi's L'Orfeo on tour at three leading American performing arts institutions; return visits to University Musical Society in Ann Arbor on April 15 and Cal Performances in Berkeley on April 20, and a debut at Green Music Center in Sonoma on April 22.

In the Spotlight: Philippine Stagers Foundation's Widespread Appeal Among School-based Audiences

It's in the spirit of the arts as a conduit for education that I found myself drawn to the theater for young audiences, with a particular interest in the work of Atty. Vincent Tañada and the Philippine Stagers Foundation (PSF). Tañada's work--as it relates to the current demands for the arts in schools--will be my main focus of this discussion.

Hearst Theater Lab Announced At The UCLA School Of Theater, Film And Television's Department Of Theater
