Cincinnati Music Theatre (CMT) is pleased to announce the casting of NOTHING LIKE A DAME: A Cabaret of Broadway's Leading Ladies at the Aronoff Center's intimate Fifth-Third Bank Theater on June 8-9 and 15-16 (see detailed schedule below). CMT has attracted some of the area's top local talent and theatre veterans - many of whom have performed in past CMT productions - for its second cabaret production through a new partnership with the Cincinnati Arts Association.

Drury Lane Theatre announces a one-night-only event with celebrated author Todd S. Purdum, in connection with its acclaimed production of the Tony Award-winning musical South Pacific. Purdum is the author of the new book SOMETHING WONDERFUL: A Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway Revolution. During the evening, Purdum will read excerpts from his new book and answer questions about the famed duo and their works. Actors' Equity Association has announced that Equity's National Council has voted to retire the name 'Gypsy Robe' -- the name for the ritual that occurs on the stage of every Broadway musical with a chorus on opening night before the audience is admitted. This week – Friday, April 6th, 2018 Harbinger Records is releasing CY COLEMAN A Jazzman's Broadway (Jamaica, Flower Drum Song, South Pacific) HCD 3401. Harbinger loves composer/jazz pianist Cy Coleman. In fact, they have undertaken an entire series of CDs devoted to his vast musical talents. The first Coleman CD was a companion to the first biography on Cy, You Fascinate Me So (an overview of rare songs by Coleman with as disparate a bunch of lyricists as Carolyn Leigh, Dorothy Fields, Floyd Huddleston, A.E. Hotchner, and even comic Allan Sherman). The CD got rave reviews and opened many musical theatre aficionados to the depth of his composing skills.
Ms. Bradbury, after Elia Kazan discovered her at the Actor's Studio, made her debut on Broadway in play, J.B. performing alongside Raymond Massey and Christopher Plummer. But it was her creation of the role of Dainty June in the original Broadway production of Gypsy with the legendary Ethel Merman that put her in the public eye. She also originated the role of Charlotte Goodall in the Broadway premiere of Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana.
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's first musical, Oklahoma!, opened on Broadway on March 31, 1943, and will mark its 75th anniversary this spring. That show, along with Carousel (whose new Broadway revival opens on April 12), South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music firmly established Rodgers and Hammerstein at the apex of the great age of the American Songbook.
