THE BOOK OF MERMAN, a new musical comedy featuring music and lyrics by Leo Schwartz and book by Schwartz and DC Cathro, will now play weekends at St. Luke's Theater beginning November 2, 2018. Directed by Joe Langworth, this new Off-Broadway musical officially opened on Sunday, October 21 at St. Luke's Theatre (308 West 46th Street).

PS CLASSICS will release a new studio cast recording of Cole Porter's 1943 smash hit musical, Something for the Boys. Seventy-five years after it took Broadway by storm, the full score to one of Porter's most forgotten musicals is finally preserved on disc, complete with its original orchestrations for 26 musicians - plus a marching band.

Leapin' lizards! 'Annie' is coming to the Jersey Shore! Broadway's original Annie, Andrea McArdle, will grace the Axelrod stage as Miss Hannigan from November 2-18. This new production of 'Annie' is directed and choreographed by New Jersey native Al Blackstone, whose career started on Broadway in 'Wicked' and then moved to FOX's 'So You Think You Can Dance,' for which he received a 2018 Emmy Award nomination.

Here she is, boys. Here she is, world. Here's E. Faye Butler as Mama Rose in GYPSY. Butler commands the Porchlight stage with a presence that's both larger-than-life and also at the same time a deeply revealing character study. To say that Butler's portrayal of Mama Rose is a star turn is almost not enough. Butler seems to live and breathe this role; she does not appear to be acting but rather fully inhabiting this iconic character.

Aisle Say's favorite interview was yesterday, with King Arthur (Steve McCoy) of SPAMALOT, opening at The Playhouse on October 25 and running for 4 nights. Mais oui, a kindred spirit, but his career took a slightly different trajectory than mine; a 20-year-old moving to NYC in 1970, attempting to make it on Broadway (and failing miserably).

The third night of performances at the Mabel Mercer Foundation's 29th Cabaret Convention was a feast for the eyes and ears. Hosted by the dynamic Klea Blackhurst, the full house of the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center gathered to witness the showcase of many powerhouse performances by cabaret greats, saluting the music of the incomparable Jerry Herman.

With acting and singing at this level, and with such a strong, moving work, this rendering of Spring Awakening packs a punch, and will reward any evening's theater-going.
