A joyful lesson in Black musical history will take place at Aaron Davis Hall on Saturday, April 7, as acclaimed performers Marvin Lowe and Queen Esther Marrow lead a cast of singers in exploration of the diversity and brilliance of Black American music through the decades at "A Soulful Music Celebration." Okada Productions in collaboration with Yuji Takematsu present Kikki & Grandpa & Baby, a new musical written and directed by Yutaka Okada beginning January 5th at the Chernuchin Theater (American Theater of Actors 314 W. 54th Street). Music is by Shizuka Iwabuchi and includes traditional Japanese songs. Lyrics are by Yutaka Okada with additional lyrics by Julie Holtzman and Kuni Mikami. Musical direction is by Kuni Mikami.
Michael Brenner, producer and impresario, founder and managing partner of the Mannheim based BB Promotion GmbH, died in the early hours of Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the age of 59. He and his much-loved wife were on a bicycle tour when he was hit by a motorbike. He never recovered from his injuries.
