On August 7, Pink Martini performed with New York Pops at its inaugural summer series at its new home, Forest Hills Stadium. The genre-defying Portland, Oregon-based band features lead singers China Forbes and Storm Large, alongside bandleader Thomas Lauderdale and several other instrumentalists.
Birdland was the scene of a very special show last night as friends and family gathered for the Wedding Celebration of Ann Hampton Callaway and Kari Strand. Broadway at Birdland and Jim Caruso's Cast Party have seen many famous and talented people on that legendary stage but it will be hard to top last night's list of guests. The New York Pops family gathered at The National Arts Club on May 18th to celebrate the life of Ruth Henderson who passed away at her home in New Milford, Connecticut on February 25th 2015. In 1983, Skitch and Ruth Henderson founded The New York Pops. Chris Poe, President of The National Arts Club welcomed the guests and introduced James A. Read Board Chairman of the New York Pops. Many friends spoke of the dynamic, caring, beautiful and inspiring person that Ruth was. In 1991 Ruth established the PopsEd program, Kids In The Balcony, which provides free tickets to students for New York Pops Concerts. Steven Reineke, music director of The Pops presented board member June Freemanzon, long time friend of the Henderson's with a framed photograph of one of the few pictures that exist of the two music directors of The New York Pops. Steven then sat at the the piano and played "Einsamkeit" a composition composed by Skitch Henderson for Ruth Henderson. The afternoon was truly A Celebration of the Life of Ruth Henderson.

On Friday night, The New York Pops continued its 31st season with two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster in her solo debut at Carnegie Hall. Among other musical standards, Foster reprised her unforgettable performances of 'Anything Goes' and 'I Get a Kick Out of You' from her Tony Award-winning turn as Reno Sweeney in the Cole Porterclassic. She also offered her own take on 'Down with Love,' made famous by Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. Foster was joined by special guest artists Joshua Henry and Megan McGinnis, who sang the showstopper 'Let It Sing' from Violet, and the touching 'Neverland' from Peter Pan.

'The Story Goes On', and Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire were in the audience as Liz Callaway ended her Christmas show with one of their songwriting masterpieces.
Music Director Steven Reineke had another gig right after the Pops Holiday Concert which featured Matthew Morrison and Kelli O'Hara. Steven was the pianist and conducted the sing along for the lucky concert goers that signed up for the after-party at Trattoria Dell'Arte which is across the street from Carnegie Hall.

During her musically spectacular performance at 54 Below last night Ann playfully introduces her pianist as George Gershwin. Ted Rosenthal may probably be able to play Gershwin's music with more accuracy than the composer did. However, I'm sure George Gershwin would never be able to accompany Ann as good as Ted Rosenthal does.

MILWAUKEE, WIS. 11/06/2014 – The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra announces an assortment of holiday concerts this season, beginning with Cirque Musica Holiday on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, Under the Mistletoe with Ashley Brown on December 5-7, 2014, The Polar Express on Saturday, December 6, 2014, and Messiah on December 17-21, 2014.
On December 19 and 20, 2014 at 8:00 PM, The New York Pops will present an evening full of holiday cheer at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage featuring Tony, Emmy and two-time Golden Globe nominee, Matthew Morrison, and five-time Tony nominee Kelli O'Hara. The orchestra will also be joined by Judith Clurman's Essential Voices USA. Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke will lead the concert, which will include festive classics like "Carol of the Bells," "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," and "Winter Wonderland," plus some of the Broadway's most beloved musical numbers.
