City Theatre Company, Pittsburgh’s home for contemporary plays, has announced the details of the theatre’s 48th season of bold, new works, beginning in September 2022. City Theatre’s second season post-pandemic shutdown will feature five plays with first-time and returning artists, plus special events.  

Boston Playwrights' Theatre (BPT) concludes its 2021-22 season with Beasts by Cayenne Douglass. Running from April 7-17, the play is directed by Kelly Galvin.

Tony Award-nominated and five-time Obie Award-winning theater company Clubbed Thumb has announced the complete line-up for the rescheduled 25th SUMMERWORKS festival of new plays. SUMMERWORKS will run May 20 – July 2, 2022 at The Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street) and will feature productions of three new plays.

People's Light presents Hold These Truths, a solo play inspired by the true story of Gordon Hirabayashi, bringing back the entire team of the 2020 production that was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will present Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner August Wilson’s sweeping drama Gem of the Ocean. This seminal classic will be directed by Artistic Director Tim Bond, a close friend of the late playwright and a leading interpreter of his work, making his TheatreWorks directorial debut with this play.

The St. Louis Black Repertory Company continues its in-person 45th Anniversary season with Behind the Sheet by Charly Evon Simpson opening March 18, 2022. Previews begin March 16 at the Catherine B. Berges Theatre at Center of Creative Arts (COCA) in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Sent to stay with his step-grandfather in a Rhode Island beach town for a summer, Daniel collides with Izzy, a feisty local. In a spirited dueling of minds that plays off the tropes of romantic comedy, Indian Summer explores what connection is, romantic and otherwise. The play features Spencer Gonzalez, Clara Napolitano, Haythem Noor, and Julian Socha.

The first-ever New York revival of Neil Simon's classic comedy about marriage, Plaza Suite, under the direction of Tony Award® winner John Benjamin Hickey, officially begins previews tonight, February 25. Learn more about the cast bringing the show back to the stage!

 Fault Line Theatre will continue the 2022 Season of Irons in the  Fire, the organization’s reading series of new plays in development, with God Save the Queer by Zackary Grady, directed by Portia Krieger and featuring Michael Urie (George), Mallory Portnoy (Charlotte), Keshav Moodliar (Tariq), Seth Clayton (Louis), and Mary McCann (Kate).

Working Barn Productions presents the West Coast premiere of what The New York Times calls “a blackly comic inversion of the public Disney persona” — the ambitiously titled A Public Reading of an Unproduced Screenplay About the Death of Walt Disney by Lucas Hnath (Broadway's A Doll's House, Part 2; Hillary and Clinton; Dana H).

Certainly, almost every American can talk about how we are descendants of immigrants who dreamed of living in a free country and did whatever was necessary to arrive on our shores. As a direct descendant of four grandparents and one parent who escaped from Eastern Europe in the early 20th Century, when I read about the Fountain Theatre presenting the world premiere of DETAINED, written by The Lily's 2021 Lorraine Hansberry Award-winning playwright France-Luce Benson, 'a gripping new docudrama composed of a compilation of true stories that explores the rippling impact of mass deportations on families,' I knew I wanted to speak with her about her inspiration and vision for the play.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts will present a six-week acting methodology workshop with screen and television star Noëlle Parker starting Tuesday, March 29, at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.

The Workshop Theater has dedicated a session of their Winter 2022 Workshop Intensive to HONOR ROLL!, an advocacy group for women+ playwrights over 40. The participants for this inaugural cycle are Kimberly Fraher, Mildred Inez Lewis, Dana Schwartz, and Jane Denitz Smith with facilitators Leslie Kincaid Burby and Stephanie Kane.
