The Wetumpka Depot Players will soon be reminding audiences that being a Southern Belle is not a part time job. Instead it's a cradle to the grave commitment. A Southern Belle Primer (Or Why Princess Margaret Could Never Be a Kappa Kappa Gamma) will run for one weekend only at the Depot Theatre beginning tonight, May 29th. Always Patsy Cline author Ted Swindley has taken Marilyn Schwartz's charming book of the same title, and crafted it into a delightful evening at the theatre proclaiming the joys of southern sisterhood.

Last weekend on Friday, July 19, New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara proposed to girlfriend Pilar Davis during the Jabbawockeez show "PRiSM" at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. A Jabbawockeez fan and dance lover, Amukamara popped the question in style when he sneakily joined the dance crew onstage for a performance in costume. Davis was pulled onstage as part of the act, and after the routine Amukamara dropped to one knee and took off his mask to reveal himself to Davis for his heartwarming proposal - she said yes. This was the first proposal ever integrated into a Jabbawockeez show.

Trinity Repertory Company previously announced that Rhode Island's own Academy Award-nominated actress, Viola Davis, would be honored with the 2012 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts at the 16th annual Pell Awards. Theater educator Elaine Foster Perry will receive the Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts, Brown University President Ruth J. Simmons will receive the Pell Award For Leadership in Arts Education, and J.L. "Lynn" Singleton, President of the Providence Performing Arts Center and Professional Facilities Management, will be honored as the recipient of the Pell Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Arts. All awardees are past or current Rhode Islanders.
