New Musical Comedy THE EVOLUTION OF MANN Opens Off-Broadway, 10/4

Nancy Manocherian's the cell (Artistic Director, Kira Simring), who produced last season's critically acclaimed World Premiere musical Bastard Jones, presents the New York Premiere of THE EVOLUTION OF MANN, a musical featuring music & lyrics by Drama Desk nominee Douglas J. Cohen (Children's Letters to God, The Opposite of Sex) and book & lyrics by Dan Elish (13: The Musical) based on his novel, Nine Wives.  Directed by Joe Barros (Bastard Jones), the production stars Max Crumm (Grease, Disaster!) in the title role, with Allie Trimm (13: The Musical and Bye Bye Birdie on Broadway) and Leslie Hiatt. Now in previews, opening is slated for Thursday, October 4.

New York Pops percussionist and founder/leader of The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, Sherrie Maricle, will appear with singer Lynn Henderson in her tribute show, 'A Skitch in Time' - My Friendship with Maestro Skitch Henderson, at Don't Tell Mama in April.

Singer Lynn Henderson returns to Don't Tell Mama this spring with A Skitch in Time: My Friendship with Maestro Skitch Henderson, a tribute to the New York Pops founder who built the Pops from an idea to a beloved international institution. The two Hendersons, who are not related, met and bonded over music at a benefit dinner in Connecticut, where they both lived at the time. Skitch assisted Lynn, who was Chairnan of Deck The Halls benefits for New Milford Hospital, by bringing his New York Pops All Stars to Connecticut. He mentored Lynn as she created a show about his friend, Cole Porter, for a local club with a cast ranging in age from five to eighty five. Later, Lynn and her musicians brought her cabaret shows to Hunt Hill Farm - the cooking school, store and gallery which were the Connecticut home of Skitch and his smart, dazzling wife, Ruth. A Skitch in Time: My Friendship with Maestro Skitch Henderson is directed by Klea Blackhurst, with Musical Direction by Douglas J. Cohen. Bob Sabin will play bass. 

Theater Resources Unlimited Presents How To Write A Musical That Works Workshop #2: Conflict & Obstacles, 2/25

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) presents the second workshop in the series How to Wrote a Musical That Works, Conflict & Obstacles, onSunday, February 25, 2018 from 10am - 6pm at NOLA Rehearsal Studio, 244 W 54th St., 5th floor, Studio 5. Submission fee is $10 for members, $20 for non-members. If accepted, it will be applied to a participation fee of $100 ($80 for TRU members). Those not selected will be invited and encouraged to attend the workshop as observers. The price is $55 ($35 for TRU members). Norbert Leo Butz Joins Cast of Midtown Direct Rep Reading of FEAR

Midtown Direct Rep (MDR) is delighted to present its second reading of its 2017-1018 staged reading series, Theater at The Woodland, with a presentation of FEAR, written by Matt Williams and directed by Mark Armstrong. This event will be performed for one night only on Sunday, December 3rd at 7:00pm at The Woodland (60 Woodland Rd. Maplewood, NJ), where MDR is the resident theater company. The reading is $20 (advance purchase), $25 (if purchased at the door) and open to the public. Student/Senior discounts are also available. FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presented the 30th Anniversary of No Way to Treat a Lady. A laugh-filled evening featuring songs from the Richard Rodgers Award winning musical by Douglas J. Cohen, based on the novel by William Goldman (The Princess Bride). MAC Award winner KLea Blackhurst (Hello, Dolly!, Goodspeed) and author Cohen co-host the event which will feature many of the performers from past productions, both off-Broadway at the York Theatre and Hudson Guild, and regionally (Florida Studio Theatre, Village Theater, Barrington Stage, TheaterWorks in Hartford, Coconut Grove in Florida, Colony Theater in L.A.), as well as photographs and footage from over a dozen international productions. Cohen will also reveal some of the show's unique history behind the scenes.
