A brand new production of the award-winning West End and Broadway show, Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, visits Theatre Royal Brighton from Tuesday 29 March to Saturday 2 April. This new tour is co-produced by Curve, Leicester, Theatre Royal Bath Productions and Mayflower Theatre Southampton.

With a legendary career spanning nearly five decades, KANSAS has established itself as one of America's iconic classic rock bands. Travis Moser is a gifted storyteller as well as an excellent vocalist, as he proved many times in the evening. Most notably in “The Moon’s a Harsh Mistress. It is a very poetic lyric that he delivered with great emotion. He was also particularly effective in Jimmy Webb’s “Still Within the Sound of My Voice,” which opened this show. He found a wistful energy in “Adios” and brought some world-weariness to “I”m Blowing Away.” I especially enjoyed his reading of “What’ll I Do?,” the Irving Berlin tune from Ronstadt’s popular “What’s New? album.

BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING STORY is the most earnest jukebox musical to date. The chord progressions and resolutions felt like being at an oxygen bar. It's ripe with nostalgia, fascinating for its window into 1960s pop and rock music, and spirit lifting for its recording of a beautiful human life
Kennedy Caughell gives a heartfelt performance as Carole King in 'Beautiful,' an otherwise flawed musical that does to King's career what most Broadway musicals do to the subjects of jukebox musicals. The musical element of the show, however, overcomes its many deficiencies to result in an overall enjoyable production.
Sometimes an evening in the theatre can be provocative, emotionally stirring, highly uplifting, mind-altering, eye-opening or even life-changing. Sometimes an evening in the theatre can bring you such immense joy or elation by the power of the story or the incredible performances that your very soul is set on fire and the a?oehigha?? lingers far beyond the final curtain. Sometimes you feel that your life would be just a little emptier, or that you would have really missed out on something very special, had you not spent that evening in the theatre. BEAUTIFUL is none of these. But it's a nice evening, all the same.
