Sitar Virtuoso Anoushka Shankar Returns To The Chan Centre To Close 2018/19 Season

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia presents the singular stylings of Anoushka Shankar on April 27, 2019, at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. Divine sitar player, acclaimed composer, and one of contemporary India's cultural gems, the award- winning artist will perform songs from her brand-new compilation album Reflections - which draws on classical ragas as well as contemporary cross-cultural pieces that showcase the versatility of the sitar across musical genres. Shankar will be joined on stage by exceptionally gifted instrumentalists Ojas Adhiya (tabla), Pirashanna Thevarajah (mridangam), Ravichandra Kulur (flute), Danny Keane (cello and piano), and Kenji Ota (tanpura).

HURRICANE SLEEP - A New Play Announced At IATI Theater

IATI Theater in a co-production with The Box Collective presents Hurricane Sleep, a new female-centered experimental play about trauma and how healing begins with the most intimate self to reverberate through dimensions of time and being, written and co-directed by Andrea Goldman.  Julia Watt and Goldman co-direct a cast of five, including George Bass*, Shashwat Gupta, Neysa Lozano, Rachel Schmeling and Heaven Stephens*.  Ten performances will be staged at IATI Theater from May 2-12, 2019.

Art Of Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang Sold At Top Price At Gianguan Auctions In New York

The International Art Museum of America (IAMA) in San Francisco today announced that on March 18, 2019, the painting 'Pomegranates in a Bamboo Basket' by Dr. Yuhua Shouzhi Wang was sold at the exceptional price of US$1.27 million during the spring auction at Gianguan Auctions in New York. Dr. Wang has been recognized by the New York Academy of Art as an international first-class artist. The auction price of this small painting, which is only twenty-seven by eighteen inches, astounded the art market!

Colin Greenwood Joins Tamino on Latest Live Single 'Indigo Night'

Tamino, the 22-year-old rising star of Belgian, Egyptian, and Lebanese heritage, makes music with startling sit-up-and-listen power. Today, after a run at SXSW and his first few North American shows, he shares the jaw-dropping live version of his single 'Indigo Night' which features music mainstay Colin Greenwood of Radiohead. Catch the live footage here. His voice, at one moment sweetly crooning at the next displaying a blistering and flawless falsetto showing off his breath-taking three-octave range. On May 10, Tamino will release his live EP titled Live At Ancienne Belgique which includes three incredible live interpretations of 'Persephone', 'Indigo Night', 'So It Goes', as well as a spectacular rendition Chris Cornell's 'Seasons'.

This break out play of two-time Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Lynn Nottage (Sweat, Ruined) is the coming of age story of a young African American girl whose family is finding their way through 1950's Brooklyn, as she teeters between filtering her life experiences through the fantasy of movies and learning the real poetry and pain of the world. Crumbs from the Table of Joy also stars freeFall favorites Trenell Mooring (freeFall's Our Town and The Little Prince) and Emilee Dupre (Broadway's Chaplin and freeFall's smash hit Cabaret.

The Clown School LA Is Opening Branches In Chicago & The Washington D.C.

THE CLOWN SCHOOL, the Los Angeles-based studio devoted to teaching and promoting the art of clowning and related physical theatre disciplines, is expanding its offerings nationwide. Beginning now and running through 2019 and beyond, The Clown School is thrilled to announce the official opening of new branches in Chicago (IL), Annapolis (MD) and Lorton (VA). The classes in Chicago will be taught by Jeremy Aluma. The classes in Annapolis (MD) and Lorton (VA) will be taught by Mike Funt. Additionally, the School is launching an Online Certificate Training in Clown - the first of its kind in the world.

NUNSENSE Comes To The Union Chapel

BWW Review: Opulent, Regal and Sumptuous ANASTASIA Captivates Nashville Audiences at Tennessee Performing Arts Center

In 2017, the Broadway musical version of Anastasia (which opened at Hartford Stage nice months earlier), based on the 1997 film, featuring music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and a book by Terrence McNally debuted to much fanfare, and now Nashville audiences are in the thrall of the cast and crew of the national touring company, onstage at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall through Sunday, March 24.

Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet presents Stray Bird, a site-specific evening of dances to music by URSULA MAMLOK, April 11 & 12 at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM (4 performances) at the German Academy New York, 1014 Fifth Avenue.  The evening, a tribute to the late composer, features live music by the Momenta String Quartet and dance by Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet in choreography by Magloire, Rebecca Walden and Mara Driscoll.

From popular, award winning Mirvish productions to new musicals being developed, to up and coming musical theatre performers honing their craft at the Sheridan College Music Theatre program, there is no shortage of talent or entertainment in the GTA. For the past 7 years, SINGular Sensation has been providing music theatre performers (professional or amateur) with an opportunity to display their talent and work on their performance skills at a musical theatre open mic night. The evening, which now takes place on the third Monday of every month, is the brainchild of host Jeni Walls, a musical theatre performer and producer who was inspired to create an evening of live performances from music theatre artists of all experience levels.
