Phantom Projects Theatre Group Presents Its Benefit Gala For Arts Education, 'The Phantom Cabaret'

Each year, Phantom Projects Theatre Group provides donates $20,000 in theatre tickets and performances to non-profits, schools, and youth groups. In addition nearly $60,000 in tickets are underwritten allowing groups to be bussed in to field trip performances at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The ability to do this every year, is due to the annual event: The Phantom Cabaret: A Benefit Gala for Arts Education, taking place on May 4 at the La Mirada Country Club. Through an evening of entertainment, dinner, silent auction and more, the event pays tribute to the non-profit organization's work with at-risk youth through the performing arts.

Operators Announce Release Date For New Album

Operators, the synth-pop band featuring Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade, Handsome Furs, Divine Fits), Devojka, and Sam Brown (Divine Fits, New Bomb Turks), have announced that their newest album, Radiant Dawn, will be out this May 17th on Last Gang Records. They recently shared the first single, “Faithless,” a song Consequence of Sound called “darkly coruscating electropop cut with just a hint of '80s psychedelia adding to the warmth, as solid a return single as anyone could hope for.” Stereogum commenter “black sheep boy” rightly proclaimed “THE BOECK IS BACK, BABY!” Listen to “Faithless” and pre-order Radiant Dawn HERE.

Washington Ensemble Theatre Announces 2019/2020 Season: “The Divine”

Washington Ensemble Theatre has announced its 2019/2020 Season, a magical lineup of plays that revels in the beauty of ritual and rite, histories and futures, and the sacred and mystic. Centered around the theme "The Divine," WET will celebrate the magnificent and transcendent forces of nature that change the way we live. The season includes the quasi-fable Is God Is by Alesha Harris, the razor-sharp preteen energy-filled play Dance Nation by Clare Barron, Raja Feather Kelly's UGLY (Black Queer Zoo), which is the second installment of its GUSH Series, and an examination of the cosmic duality of good and evil in a new collaboration with the beloved Cherdonna Shinatra, The Strange Case of Dr. Cher and Mr. Donna. WET will continue to produce as a resident company at 12th Avenue Arts in Capitol Hill. Subscriptions start at $60 and are on sale now at www.washingtonensemble.org.  

I AM A CAMERA Announced At Brighton Fringe

Multi-award nominated Blue Devil Productions is excited to announce that I am a Camera by John Van Druten and directed by Ross Dinwiddy, is coming to Brighton Fringe for 6 nights in May. In this rare revival of the play upon which Cabaret is based, we see a rich picture of heartbreaking pathos, wicked comedy and the divine decadence of 1931 Berlin - but soon the carefree indulgence must end as the Nazis smash their way to power.

The Triad Theater, Off-Broadway Theatre, presents Queen Diva in "Strength of a Woman: A Phyllis Hyman Tribute 70th Birthday Celebration" on Saturday, July 6, 2019. The 120 minute tribute celebration begins with Phyllis Hyman's Disco Hit produced by New York's Own James Mtume 'You Know How To Love Me,' to Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies Medley-Sophisticated Ladies, A Train, It Don't Mean A Thing, In A Sentimental Mood" to her pivotal vocal performance in Brooklyn's own Spike Lee's "School Daze" singing "Be One"  to her recording career beginning with Veteran Producer Norman Connors singing "Betcha By Golly Wow" to  her favorite songs "What You Won't Do For Love," to "Old Friend" a song she would dedicate to her numerous dear friends who died of AIDS in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Numi Opera Presents Inaugural Production DER ZWERG

Numi Opera and its inaugural production -- Alexander Von Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg based on a story by Oscar Wilde -- is announced. Directed by Numi Opera Executive Director Gail R. Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet presents Stray Bird, a site-specific evening of dances to music by URSULA MAMLOK, April 11 & 12 at 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM (4 performances) at the German Academy New York, 1014 Fifth Avenue.  The evening, a tribute to the late composer, features live music by the Momenta String Quartet and dance by Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet in choreography by Magloire, Rebecca Walden and Mara Driscoll.  

Andrew Dykstal And Aliya Chen Announced As Grand Prize Winners Of 35th Annual Writers Of The Future

Andrew Dykstal, a writer from Arlington, VA, has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 35th Annual Writers of the Future, and Aliya Chen, an illustrator from Fair Oaks, CA has been named the Grand Prize Winner of the 30th Annual Illustrators of the Future L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards for Writers and Illustrators of the Future Contests in the genres of Science Fiction & Fantasy held at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Hollywood, CA on Friday evening, April 5, 2019.  A capacity crowd of 400 people attended the Black-Tie GALA. Presented by Author Services, Inc. and Galaxy Press, the theme for the two-hour awards show was Retro Robotics.
