Smash-hit musical, 'MJ,' is coming to BroadwaySF's Orpheum Theatre. Don't miss the electrifying tribute to the King of Pop.

Dear Readers, you know I’m not a fan of the bio musical. Very few get it right with jamming too many songs in or a bad book. Unfortunately, “MJ” the Michael Jackson bio musical currently playing at the Paramount suffers from both of those things, and more.

 PNC Broadway in Kansas City has announced that single tickets for the smash-hit musical, MJ, will go on sale Friday, December 8 at 10:00 a.m. This production is part of the 23–24 PNC BROADWAY IN KANSAS CITY season and will take the stage at Music Hall for 8 performances May 7–12, 2024.

'MJ' was a slick production with an extremely talented cast who executed some elite singing and dancing, and I know that the show is a crowd-favorite currently with numerous Tony Awards under its belt. Still, it did not strike me as significantly better or even different than any of the other bio-jukebox musicals that have been coming out.

MJ The Musical is coming to Seattle's Paramount Theatre in December. Don't miss this long-awaited show that has already played to over 1,000,000 patrons in the United States.

Tickets for the smash-hit musical, MJ, are now on sale to Boston audiences.  MJ will play the Citizens Bank Opera House June 18 – July 7, 2024 as part of the Lexus 23/24 Broadway In Boston Season.

Is creativity, which inherently involves MJ, the bio-musical about Michael Jackson that just opened at Greenville’s Peace Center, tells the story of his life by telling the story of his work.

Individual tickets for the smash-hit musical, MJ, will go on sale starting Tuesday, September 19 at 10am. MJ makes its Seattle premiere at The Paramount Theatre from December 7 – 17.

Producers Lia Vollack, John Branca, John McClain and Broadway in Cincinnati have announced that the smash-hit musical, MJ, begins performances at the Aronoff Center. As part of the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Cincinnati 23/24 series presented by TriHealth, MJ makes its Ohio premiere at the Aronoff Center now through September 17.

Producers Lia Vollack, John Branca, John McClain, and Broadway Dallas and Broadway Across America has announced that individual tickets for the smash-hit musical, MJ, will go on sale starting Friday, August 11 at 10 a.m. MJ makes its North Texas premiere November 21 – December 3 at the Music Hall at Fair Park as part of the Germania Insurance Broadway Series presented by Broadway Dallas.

Street Theatre Company officially opens its 2023-24 season at The Barbershop Theatre with its production of 35MM, opening Friday night and continuing through August 26. Directed by Everett Tarlton, with music direction by Nick Benefield, 34MM features music and lyrics by Ryan Scott Oliver, based on and inspired by photographs by Matthew Murphy.

Is MJ a fun and entertaining musical that treats audiences to many of Michael Jackson’s iconic hits? Yes. Does MJ also demonstrate why bio jukebox musicals are tricky? Yes. In the musical, MJ emphatically tells fictional MTV reporter Rachel that he wants to be remembered for his music. But can the art be separated from the artist, or are the two intertwined in all their messy, complicated ways? I don’t have an answer to that question, but I think MJ struggles with making the struggles and demons of a complex person — the real-life Michael Jackson — seem simplistic.
