Here's the scoop for those newer generation theatre and movie fans who do not remember 1952's blockbuster hit film Singin' in the Rain. Directors Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, screenwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green and costars Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds all contributed to making it the smash that it was... and still is...on cable like TCM. The zany lightweight hit transferred to the stage in the early 80s and showed the craziness that may have happened when the big movie studios were transitioning from silents to talkies in the late 20s. Now in a fun-filled revival at Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theatre, it's all brought back to vibrant theatrical life by skilled director DJ Gray and a delicious company of triple threats through June 2.

When Margaret Brown managed to scramble onto one of the few lifeboats available when the Titanic sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, the Denver, Colo., socialite became the stuff of myth and legends. She grabbed an oar and argued vehemently that they turn the boat around and look for survivors. Later, as a philanthropist, Brown spent many years helping families whose relatives had been on the doomed voyage.

A couple of weeks ago when five-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell died, I assumed the marquees of Broadway theaters would be dimmed. I emailed the Broadway League--the association of theatre owners and producers who issues press releases on such things--to ask 'when' it would happen. I don't know why I automatically assumed it would.

Who doesn't appreciate the beloved film Singing in the Rain? Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor sang and danced their way into our hearts in this 1952 movie classic about the pandemonium that plagued the movie industry in the late 1920s when motion pictures morphed from silence to full sound. In the film, Monumental Pictures found themselves with a popular silent film star who possessed an awful speaking and singing voice and would not transition well in to the new world of movies with sound. What to do, what to do. If you have seen the film, you know how the winsome story evolves.
