FLYING FABLES Plays New Haarlem Arts Theatre, Now thru 7/27

Aiming to become a community anchor with the capacity to unite theater professionals, students and local residents of all ages, New Haarlem Arts Theatre, the professional theater company of City College of New York (CCNY), presents its first play for young audiences, 'Flying Fables,' adapted by Obie-winner Stephanie Berry, directed by John-Martin Green with choreography and staging by Bruce Hawkins, and original music by Patricia Ju from tonight, July 14 to July 27 at Aaron Davis Hall, 135th Street and Convent Avenue.

New Haarlem Arts Theatre's FLYING FABLES Changes Theatres

To accommodate emergency repairs in Theatre C of Aaron Davis Hall, New Haarlem Arts Theatre has relocated all performances of 'Flying Fables' (July 14 to 27), a new play for family audiences adapted by Stephanie Berry and directed by John-Martin Green, to CCNY's Compton/Goethals Studio Theatre, located at 140th Street and Amsterdam Avenue (3rd floor).

New Haarlem Arts Theatre Presents 'Latina's Tale' SWEET CHARITY, 7/26-8/19

The Latino spirit is alive in New Harlem Arts Theatre's upcoming production of 'Sweet Charity,' directed by Julio Agustin, to be presented July 26 to August 19 at CCNY's Aaron Davis Hall, 135th Street and Convent Ave. The characters of the classic sixties musical will be re-envisioned to reflect the changing roles of Latinos in our society while the traditional music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields and book by Neil Simon will be preserved. The 1966 Broadway tuner was originally conceived, staged and choreographed by Bob Fosse. Director Julio Agustin has tapped choreographer Lainie Munro for the job of nestling his radical new concept into Fosse's formative jazz dances.

NHAT Opens Season with MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM, Now thru 7/8

New Haarlem Arts Theatre (NHAT), the professional theater company of City College of New York (CCNY), will open its second season tonight, June 14 through July 8 with 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' by August Wilson, directed by Eugene Nesmith and starring Johnnie Mae as Ma.

INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) presents American Jornalero, a new play written by Ed Cardona, Jr., directed by Mariana Carreño-King, opening tonight, May 7 at 8 p.m. and continuing through June 3rd only, at INTAR (500 West 52nd Street at Tenth Avenue, on the 4th Floor). XANADU Closes Signature's 22nd Season, Running Now thru 7/1

Signature Theatre closes out its 2011/12 season sporting funky legwarmers and wielding neon glow sticks with the Washington premiere of the musical comedy hit Xanadu. Beginning performances tonight, May 6th, Xanadu will be transforming Signature's MAX Theatre into one big disco-ball heaven - complete with satin shorts and roller skates! Nominated for four Tony Awards® (including "Best Musical"), the musical features a Book by Douglas Carter Beane, with Music and Lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar. Xanadu will play at Signature from tonight, May 6, 2012 through July 1, 2012. Tickets are now on sale.

New Haarlem Arts Theatre Sets Second Season: MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM, SWEET CHARITY and More

This summer, New Haarlem Arts Theatre (NHAT), the professional theater company of City College of New York (CCNY), has expanded its programming and will present mainstage productions of 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom' and 'Sweet Charity,' as well as a show for young audiences and a readings series. The theater, led by Eugene Nesmith, is entering its second season and will again be in residence at Aaron Davis Hall, located at W. 135th Street and Convent Avenue, Manhattan (Hamilton Heights).

City Parks Foundation Announce The Richard Rodgers Amphitheater Grantees for 2012-13

City Parks Foundation and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation today announced the winners of the Richard Rodgers Amphitheater performing arts grant, a one-time $25,000 award intended to attract premier arts presenters to produce works at the recently constructed Richard Rodgers Amphitheater at Marcus Garvey Park in historic Harlem.

THE BOY WHO SEES Plays in Philadelphia, 4/11-29

Nova D Arts Collective, Danse4Nia Repertory Ensemble, Company Theatre, and GoKash Productions present "The Boy Who Sees" by Davon Williams, winner of three Philadelphia Urban Theater Festival awards and starring Kash Goins, Erica Brown, Hasan Malik, Andre Brown, and Brett Gray. Jesimiel Jenkins directs. Choreographer: A.C. Gilmore choreographs. The show plays April 11th - April 29th at First Philadelphia Charter School.

Harlem Stage has announced its Spring 2012 schedule, which includes tributes to jazz giant Cecil Taylor and modern legends A Tribe Called Quest, as well as barrier-busting works in music, dance and film.
