Victory Gardens Theater presents Town Hall: Black Girls, Sexual Violence and the #MuteRKelly Campaign an event where Chicago community members can join conversations about women of color, sexual violence, community-based prevention, and systemic structures that contribute to this pervasive problem. The Town Hall will be held at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln Avenue on Thursday, May 16 at 6pm. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Celebrated actress Ellen Burstyn,who won an Academy Award for Best Actress for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, will share some of her favorite poems as part of Poetry & the Creative Mind, a performance in celebration of National Poetry Month to be held April 24, 2019, at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. 

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater has announced casting and other details for the World Premiere of Lockdown by Cori Thomas (Citizens Market, When January Feels Like Summer), directed by Kent Gash (Barbeque). This play, commissioned by Rattlestick with support from the Virginia P. Toulmin Foundation, will begin previews on April 17, 2019 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater (224 Waverly Place), with opening night set for May 2 and a limited engagement through May 19, 2019. Victory Gardens Theater in partnership with The Black Women's Expo and Black Owned Chicago present the Black Beauty Festival February 9 from 2:00pm 10:00pm and February 10 from 1:00pm 6:00pm. Featuring a showcase of Black owned businesses specializing in beauty and wellness products, incredible performances, and post-show conversations, Black Beauty Festival is presented in conjunction with the Chicago Premiere of Pipeline, written by Dominique Morisseau and directed by Cheryl Lynn Bruce at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Victory Gardens Theater announces Tanuja Jagernauth as the 2019 Marcelle McVay Management Fellow for 2019. Victory Gardens Next Generation Fellowships provide comprehensive mentorship, requisite training, and experience for these future leaders of color, preparing them to helm arts institutions or departments on the national and local level. The 2019 Macelle McVay Management Fellowship is made possible by support from the Weiss Grosshandler Charitable Fund.

Victory Gardens Theater, with Actors Theatre of Louisville, to present the Co-World Premiere of How to Defend Yourself, written by Lily Padilla and directed by Marti Lyons. How to Defend Yourself will be presented at the 2019 Humana Festival of New American Plays (March 21 - April 7, 2019) and as part of the Victory Gardens Theater 2019/2020 Season (January 24 - February 23, 2020).

The Japan Art Association has appointed Caroline Kennedy, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, as International Advisor to Praemium Imperiale. Starting in November 2018, she will preside over the U.S. Nomination Committee, recommending candidates for the Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award. Ms. Kennedy will succeed, Ambassador William Luers, former President of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, who served in this role for 18 years and will become an Honorary Advisor.

Currently celebrating its 40th Anniversary Season, Second Stage Theater has announced that Terry Lindsay, a current Trustee of the Board, and Timothy J. McClimon, Trustee and President, American Express Foundation and Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, American Express, have been elected as Co-Chairs of Second Stage's Board of Trustees, effective September 1, 2018. Additionally, Laurie Erlandson and Peter Lichtenthal have both been voted on as new members of the Board of Trustees. Former Chairman Stephen C. Sherrill will remain on the Board, joining Tony Kiser as a Chairman Emeritus.

Artistic Director Chay Yew and Managing Director Erica Daniels announce Victory Gardens Theater's Public Programs line-up in conjunction with Mies Julie, written by Yael Farber, directed by Dexter Bullard, and adapted from August Strindberg's Miss Julie. The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) will begin previews for the 2018 Free Shakespeare in the Park production of OTHELLO beginning Tuesday, May 29 at the Delacorte Theater, continuing a 57-year tradition of free theater in Central Park. Directed by Tony Award winnerRuben Santiago-Hudson, OTHELLO will officially open on Monday, June 18 and will run through Sunday, June 24.
