'Downton Abbey' will return to MASTERPIECE on PBS for a fifth season.

On the heels of the UK series announcing its renewal, PBS has confirmed that Downton Abbey, the Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning drama will return to MASTERPIECE on PBS for a fifth season. Production will begin in 2014.

Trade Practices, a new work exploring the notion of 'value' against the backdrop of the booms and busts of the past decade, is set to play October 18 - November 3. Official Opening Night is set for Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00pm. Trade Practices will take place at a site in lower Manhattan's Financial District; address to be announced.

It's one of my favorite weekends of the year. The weekend I get to spend three days listening to exciting new works as presented by some of the best performers Seattle has to offer. And this year Village Theatre did not disappoint as they invited members, performers, staff and press to partake of their Village Originals 13th Annual Festival of New Musicals. Some good, some maybe not so, some needing a little more work than others but all showing a deep love for the art and presented by some of the best voices in town. Now, I can't review them as they're still works in progress but I can tell you about the shows presented over the weekend and let you know about the one show that while still in development is still running one more weekend and can have tickets purchased to by non-members (that would be you, Dear Readers).

HERE's upcoming season also includes the second annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre Now festival in January; HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival which gives audiences a first look at new work in process from HERE Resident Artists; and a presentation from the Dream Music Puppetry Program, to be announced.

CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS is a new musical which will premiere at Riverside Studios in London from tonight, 4 to 14 July for 10 performances only.

The third of three world-premieres presented by the 5-time Obie Award-winning Clubbed Thumb in its 18th annual SUMMERWORKS festival of new plays -- LA BREA by Gregory S. Moss -- begins previews tonight, June 20 prior to its official press opening June 23 at The Wild Project (195 E. 3 St.) in Manhattan. LA BREA performs daily at 8 p.m. from June 20 to 29. (No performance on June 24.)
