BWW Review: THE BAND'S VISIT at The Kennedy Center – A Magical Musical Full of Heart
by Charles Shubow - Jul 16, 2019

I really enjoyed the Eran Kolirin's 2007 Israeli-Egyptian film 'The Band's Visit' . The story involved the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Orchestra who get lost in Israel on their way to a concert performance at the Arab Cultural Center in a large city named Petal Tikvah and instead the bus they take arrives at the small town of Bet Hatikva. With the next bus not due until the next day, the musicians are invited to spend the night with the town natives (there is no hotel) and have dinner. The moving film tackles the subject of Egyptians and Israelis in 1996 who in 1967 had a hard-fought war on the Sinai Peninsula.

Lizzie Vieh Brings MONSOON SEASON To The Edinburgh Fringe
by A.A. Cristi - Jul 3, 2019

Danny hasn't had a decent night's sleep in weeks. Between his recent divorce, his mind-numbing job in technical support, the micro-blackouts he's suffering from and a flashing neon sign from a strip club that is keeping him awake all night, his grasp of reality is definitely slipping.

BWW Review: NEXT TO NORMAL at Writers Theatre
by Rachel Weinberg - May 17, 2019

Under the direction of David Cromer, Writers Theatre presents a NEXT TO NORMAL that is raw and electric. Tom Kitt's music and Brian Yorkey's book and lyrics have an utter immediacy to them in this production (and each note sounds great thanks to the music direction of Andra Velis Simon and the six-piece band.) It's beautifully cast and even more beautifully delivered. Each member of the cast rises to the dual challenge of conveying the messy, deeply personal experience of emotional pain while also hitting the notes of Kitt's complex score with precision.
