Totem Pole Playhouse Adds Extra Seating To Accommodate MAMMA MIA! Opening

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's beloved summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, has announced that the Playhouse's production of the mega-hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! set a new box office record for advance ticket sales in the Playhouse's 68-year history. To date, over $280,000.00 in tickets have been sold putting the show on track to surpass last season's box office record-breaking production of Million Dollar Quartet. Mamma Mia! will begin performances this Friday at 8PM and Saturday at 2PM and 8PM with three low cost $20.00 general admission previews followed by the official Opening Sunday afternoon at 2PM. The production is scheduled to run through August 19th, a week longer than the previous three shows in the summer season.

BWW Review: A PROPER PLACE at Village Shipwrecks Itself

There's the old adage in any kind of entertainment that if you have a strong finish, the audience can forgive some pitfalls that may have come before. Unfortunately the new work currently playing at Village Theatre has many of those pitfalls (and some good moments too) but they're followed by one of the most egregiously bad, anti-climactic and lackluster endings I think I've ever seen.

BWW Review: Technically Superior VIOLET at ArtsWest Lacks Emotional Connection

There's no doubt that Jeanine Tesori's music in the musical "Violet", currently playing at ArtsWest, is stirring and powerful but it's the lyrics and book by Brian Crawley that truly pack the punch in the show. But of course they would as the show is rife with hot button topics of that era as well as our own. And while the ensemble manages some of the tightest and most technically proficient performances I've seen I didn't always get from them the importance or danger associated with the stakes of those issues and so didn't always feel the emotional connection to the story.
