Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed CD When I Fall In Love, Chris Botti has become the largest-selling American instrumental artist. His success has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music. His ongoing association with PBS has led to four #1 jazz albums, as well as multiple Gold and Platinum records and Grammy Awards.The McCallum Theatre welcomes the return of Grammy Award winner Chris Botti on Friday, April 12, at 8:00pm and Saturday, April 13, at 8:00pm.

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ravinia's Steans Music Institute (RSMI) last summer, Ravinia launched a competition for composers who could fuse the worlds of jazz and classical music. Due to its success, Ravinia, with the support of DownBeat magazine, is now calling for submissions to the second annual "Bridges" international jazz and classical fusion composition competition, overseen by legendary pianist Billy Childs and double-bassist Rufus Reid, who co-direct the RSMI Jazz Program. Up to three winners will receive the David Baker Prize, named in recognition of the first RSMI Jazz director. The prize includes $2,500 in cash plus the world-premiere performance of the winning piece during Ravinia's 2019 season.

This fall, Cid Pearlman Performance will present the ALL JOAN SHOW, a retrospective of dances made in collaboration with renowned San Francisco-based cellist and composer, Joan Jeanrenaud. The All Joan Show runs September 21 to 22 at the Joe Goode Annex in San Francisco before moving to Santa Cruz for a three-evening engagement at Motion Pacific, October 19 to 21.

Bloomingdale School of Music (BSM) is pleased to present A Jazz Tribute to Leonard Bernstein as part of Leonard Bernstein at 100, the global celebration of one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century on Friday, June 1st at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 4pm, Israeli-American cellist Inbal Segev, known for her “warm, pure and beautiful tone” (Strings Magazine), will give the world premiere of Tangle Eye, Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, by California Symphony Young American Composer-in-Residence Dan Visconti, with the California Symphony at Lesher Center for the Arts, in a concert led by Music Director Donato Cabrera. The concert will also include Beethoven's Coriolan Overture and Bruckner's Symphony No. 6. A free pre-concert talk with Cabrera will begin at 3pm.
