30th Anniversary Artistic Year Begins At Blackfriars Playhouse

The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) began its 30th Anniversary Artistic Year with the launch of the 2018 Summer/Fall Season and a performance of As You Like It on June 13. The 2018 Summer/Fall Season will also feature a world-premiere adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma by Emma Whipday, Richard III, and George Etherege's The Man of Mode.
Taos Opera Institute Festival Returns To Northern New Mexico This June

The Taos Opera Institute (TOI) will host the eleventh Taos Opera Institute Festival this year, June 7 - 30. The festival will feature two performance groups, the TOI Singers and the Cantos de Taos Quartet performing 19 free classical music performances in Taos County, Los Alamos and Santa Fe. These events are free and open to the public.

The American Shakespeare Center (ASC) begins its annual Actors' Renaissance Season with performances of Hamlet and Richard II on January 19. The Actors' Renaissance Season is the ASC's experiment into what Elizabethan and Jacobean rehearsal conditions might have been and features a troupe of veteran ASC actors who design the productions and conduct rehearsals without a formal director.

This Christmas there seem to be more productions of Dickens' festive tale than ever. This is the fourth revival of Antic Disposition's musical production of A Christmas Carol. Its return to the spectacular setting of the impressive Middle Temple Hall, with its breathtaking hammer-beam roof, could not be more celebratory or Dickensian. Dickens himself studied there and walking to the hall through the cobbled streets lit by gaslight is a distinctly atmospheric experience.

Those who are afraid of seeing Shakespeare because of the oft abstract language and confusing plot twists should fear not. This production is a total delight, with a nice mash-up of comedy and outlandish farce, mixed in with a little lover's stardust. It's definite must see!
