Following a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus, the annual 12-day gathering for opera lovers returns in September with its fourth iteration, O22, featuring live opera performances at multiple venues in Philadelphia as well as a series of film screenings and a panel discussion that explores whether the industry's recent foray into cinematic production was a temporary blip or a game-changer for the art form.

Boston Baroque concludes its 2021-2022 season with two programs in March and April. First, Boston Baroque presents Vivaldi’s Gloria, a beloved choral work brought to life by Boston Baroque’s chorus, alongside Handel’s stunning Ode for St. Cecilia’s Day featuring soloists Elena Villalón and Rufus Müller. Des Moines Metro Opera announced today that Allen Perriello has been named to the position of Director of Artistic Administration for the company beginning February 16. He returns to DMMO having previously worked on the Company's music staff from 2011 to 2016.

Beginning in November with Handel’s Julius Caesar in Egypt, in its first staging by the company, the season continues with the return of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, Rossini’s beloved Barber of Seville, and the Southeastern premiere of the Grammy award-winning opera The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, in a new production by Carl W. Knobloch Jr. General and Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun.

On April. 23, 2021, San Francisco Opera presented its first drive-in opera, Rossini’s rollicking comedy, The Barber of Seville. As the boisterous Spanish hair stylist, baritone Lucas Meachem opened the show with a vigorous, rousing version of his famous “Largo al Factotum”. California COVID restrictions limited the show to ninety minutes. Using the Zedda edition of the Ricordi piano/vocal score, Conductor Roderick Cox and Director Matthew Ozawa treated the audience to all the opera’s major arias, duets, and ensembles,

Opening on April 23, the eleven performances running through May 15 are the Company’s first live performances in 16 months since the onset of the global pandemic, which caused the cancellation of the Company’s Summer and Fall 2020 seasons.

On Wednesday, April 21, We begin this week’s tour with one of the Los Angeles Opera website’s most popular “Living Room Recitals.” Soprano, Latonia Moore sings with pianist Roberto Berrocal. After the recital, we leave for NYC. On arrival, we go to Shut Up and Eat, a most generous Toms River restaurant that offers a discount to patrons in pajamas.
