Orchestra Of St. Luke's Announces 2019-20 Carnegie Hall Season With Bernard Labadie

For its 2019-2020 Subscription Series presented by Carnegie Hall, Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) and Principal Conductor Bernard Labadie will perform three bold concert programs, including Mendelssohn's "Scottish" Symphony and pianist Beatrice Rana performing Bach keyboard concertos, a program dedicated entirely to works for double orchestra by Handel and Vivaldi, and a celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday with four works displaying the composer's audacious genius.

A longtime advocate for music suppressed by the Nazi regime, Polish-Canadian pianist Daniel Wnukowski (vnoo-koff'-skee) makes his New York debut this February as part of a festival dedicated to the music of Galician-Jewish composer Karol Rathaus (1895-1954). Little-known today, Rathaus was a protege of Franz Schreker and built a successful career in Berlin before fleeing in 1932 due to the deteriorating political situation in Germany. He first migrated to Paris, then to London in 1934. He settled in New York in 1938 and joined the music faculty of Queens College two years later as its first professor of composition.

Chamber Music Society Of Lincoln Center Begins Winter/Spring Season Next Month

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center starts its 2019 winter/spring season in Alice Tully Hall with two exciting performances. The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, a Meet the Music!concert for families based on Paul Goble's haunting tale of a Native American girl who understands horses on a mystical level, will be presented on January 13. Led by series creator and host Bruce Adolphe, the performance features flutist Sooyun Kim, clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois, cellist Mihai Marica, pianist David Kaplan, percussionist Eduardo Leandro, and a free instrumental petting zoo in the lobby for kids. It will be followed by Esteemed Ensemble, which reunites close friends and colleagues pianist Wu Han, violinist Daniel Hope, violist Paul Neubauer, and cellist David Finckel,performing piano quartet classics by Suk, Brahms, and Dvo?ak on January 27 and 29.

Traditional and contemporary versions of Vivaldi's iconic "The Four Seasons" are juxtaposed in a distinctive program by the acclaimed Zurich Chamber Orchestra, led by Music Director Daniel Hope, who serves as violin soloist in both works, presented by the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 22, 2018, 7:30 pm.  The concert includes Vivaldi's classic cycle of the famous Baroque violin concertos followed by Vivaldi Recomposed, Max Richter's contemporary minimalist take on the masterpiece.  Hope, "among the best in the world" (The Observer), also conducts/performs Fabian Muller's Intermezzo III "Winter" for Violin and Ensemble

Operating in multiple venues for the first 16 days of the 2018 festival, the organization presents its most ambitious classical music programming to date, extensive world music offerings and a hard-hitting week of jazz and acclaimed Americana and folk music artists, in addition to theatrical productions and films. Classic and contemporary will meet in concert Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m., in the Virginia G. Piper Theater at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. That's when the Zurich Chamber Orchestra performs Vivaldi's famous cycle of violin concertos, The Four Seasons, along with a recent take on that famous score, Vivaldi Recomposed, a rewrite of The Four Seasons by German-born British composer Max Richter (1966 - ). Zurich Chamber Orchestra music director Daniel Hope will serve as violin soloist for both pieces.

The 2017/18 season of world-class dance, music and theater continues as the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) presents its third annual Winter @ The Wallis series.
