BWW Reviews: @THE_MOMENT Comically Captures Life in 2011

The set for Salt Luck Arts' five-act @The_Moment: #5shortplaysonlifein2011 is simple to begin with and gets no more complicated as the performance progresses. This is a plus, since the stage is small and the ensemble cast's acting is good enough-very good enough, actually-to require little in terms of props or scenery to convey the theme coursing through the five one-act shorts: the idiosyncrasies of our very-connected-yet-somehow-not-connected-at-all life in the '10s.

Jeffrey Kuhn and Todd Cerveris Join CAP21 Theatre's SOUTHERN COMFORT

CAP 21 Theatre Company presents SOUTHERN COMFORT, a new musical by Dan Collins (book and lyrics) and Julianne Wick Davis (music), based on Kate Davis' 2001 Sundance award-winning documentary about transgender friends in rural Georgia. Jeffrey Kuhn and Todd Cerveris join previously announced Annette O'Toole and Jeff McCarthy, with previews to begin October 5, prior to its official press opening October 6 at the CAP21 Black Box Theater (18 West 18th Street) in Manhattan. Thomas Caruso (ZOMBIE, MIMI LE DUCK) directs.

TriArts Sharon Playhouse Presents LOVING LEO Reading 8/10

TriArts Sharon Playhouse (Sharon, CT) will present a reading of the new musical Loving Leo Wednesday night, August 10 at 7:30 PM in its Bok Gallery. Admission is $5. and no advance reservation is necessary. The reading is part of their 2011 New Works Readings and Concerts Series, which has included Whiskey Songs (by Joe Iconis) and When We Met (Music/ Lyrics by Julianne Wick Davis, Book by Dan Collins). Artistic Director John Simpkins oversees the summer series.

On the eve of the opening of I Married Wyatt Earp, New York Theatre Barn will present A Celebration of Women Composers. The evening will benefit New York Theatre Barn and will feature songs by emerging songwriters Julia Meinwald (Pregnancy Pact), Zoe Sarnak (The Quad), Katya Stanislavskaya (Women on Love), and Shaina Taub (The Daughters).

As previously announced, New York Theatre Barn in collaboration with Prospect Theater Company will present the new all-female musical I Married Wyatt Earp at 59E59 Theaters May 20 - June 12, 2011. The production officially opens on Tuesday, May 24 and stars Heather Mac Rae (Falsettos, Hair, A Catered Affair) and Carolyn Mignini (Tintypes, Fiddler on the Roof).

NAMT Awards $62,000 to support New Musical Development

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 15 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaboration with writers to create, develop, and produce new musicals.
