Playwrights Horizons presents an industry only reading on Friday, February 25th at 3pm of the new musical SOUTHERN COMFORT by Julianne Wick Davis and Dan Collins. Directed by Thomas Caruso. Based on Kate Davis' Grand Jury prize-winning Sundance documentary of the same name, SOUTHERN COMFORT is a modern day musical folktale that tells the story of female to male transgender Robert Eads, an exuberant good ole boy living with ovarian cancer in the back hills of Georgia. Surrounded by a unique community of friends and with his girl Lola Cola at his side, Robert and his chosen family navigate the every day trials of love and heartache in the face of every day ignorance and bigotry. A year in a life leading up to the transgender cotillion in Atlanta, SOUTHERN COMFORT paints a bold portrait of people who blur lines, shatter boundaries and transform perception simply through their audacity to love and their refusal to be anything other than themselves.

SOUTHERN COMFORT was a top 10 finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award. The cast stars Annette O'Toole as Robert Eads, Jeff McCarthy, Randy Redd, Vicki Van Tassel, Joe Coots, Kay Walbye, James Moye and Anna Stone. Robert DuSold, creative producer.
