Playwrights Horizons today announced SPACE on Ryder Farm as the third theater company to join its Resident Company Program. Playwrights is a writer's theater dedicated to the support and development of contemporary American playwrights, composers and lyricists and to the production of their new work.

The most awarded show of the 2015 Broadway theatre season, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, will perform in Wharton Center's Cobb Great Hall November 14-19, 2017, and is part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Broadway at Wharton Center Series.

There is a new vision of heaven tap-dancing its way through my brain replete with beautiful showgirls and handsome chorus boys performing a show-stopping version of George and Ira Gershwin's I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise from An American in Paris, the sumptuous musical now onstage at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall through Sunday, November 5 and, quite frankly, if that is not what paradise will look like should I arrive there after my untimely demise, I will simply refuse to stay. For if paradise isn't the gorgeous and glittery, utterly theatrical vision supplied by this altogether splendid production, I'll say to hell with it (and me, I suppose), because surely paradise is set to a lush and memorable Gershwin score. Anything else is simply a poor facsimile of the real thing. Est-ce que tu comprends?

Playwrights Horizons has announced complete casting for Mankind, the world premiere of a new play written and directed by two-time Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy, Bella: An American Tall Tale at Playwrights; Barbecue, In the Continuum, The Brother/Sister Plays).

For McGee Maddox the dancer/actor who plays Jerry Mulligan in the national tour of An American in Paris, which opens at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall on Tuesday, October 31 it's knowing that every Tuesday means a new venue, a new city and a new backstage crew that keeps him focused and the role fresh even after 128 performances.

AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards, will play in New Orleans at the Saenger Theatre for a one-week engagement Jan. 30 Feb. 4, 2018. Presented by the New Orleans Theatre Association, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS is part of the East Jefferson General Hospital Broadway in New Orleans 2017-2018 season.

The 2015 musical, inspired by the Oscar-winning film of the same title, features a score by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by Craig Lucas opened at the Memphis Orpheum this week. Because the story centers on Ballet, which I'm not qualified to critique, I brought along Dmitri Roudnev, former Bolshoi soloist and current Ballet Master.

On Tuesday, October 24, Broadway Backstory podcast released the fifth episode of the show's second season. The episode covers the 2005 musical THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. The documentary-style podcast traces the show's journey from a 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer to musical idea briefly considered by Richard Rodgers and ultimately taken up by Rogers' grandson Adam Guettel.

Roundabout Theatre Company has just announced its 2017-18 Artists in Residence. 'I started the Artists in Residence program about 25 years ago to provide artistic and financial support to early-career artists, giving them a theatre to call home and to provide peace of mind for a sustainable career,' says Roundabout Artistic Director Todd Haimes. 'Over the years, this program has evolved to include playwrights, mid-career directors and even an entire young company. The Huntington Theatre Company presents the brilliant classic comedy Tartuffe by Moli re, directed by Huntington Theatre Company Artistic Director Peter DuBois (Sunday in the Park with George), translated by Ranjit Bolt, and featuring actor and comedianBrett Gelman (Murray Bauman on the upcoming season of Netflix's Stranger Things and Dinner with Brett Gelman specials on Adult Swim) as Tartuffe and Tony Award winner Frank Wood (Side Man and August Osage County on Broadway and HBO's Flight of the Conchords ) as Orgon. Performances run from November 10 through December 10, 2017 at the Avenue of the Arts / Huntington Avenue Theatre.

The Dramatists Guild of America will present Paula Vogel the 2016 Hull-Warriner Award for her play Indecent and David Yazbek the 2017 Frederick Loewe Award for Dramatic Composition for his score to The Band's Visit, next Monday, October 23, 2017. The event will be held at Kava Caf in midtown Manhattan.

The national tour of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS at the Eccles Theater is a beautifully crafted work of art that celebrates art in many forms. Dance, music, and visual art play important roles in both the plot and the production of the show itself, which is a unique combination of a ballet, a dramatic play, and a musical.

Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons has announced an extension of their world premiere production of The Treasurer, a new play by Max Posner (Judy).

The new musical, An American in Paris, was uniformly critically acclaimed when it opened earlier this year. Inspired by the Hollywood classic, it is now playing its final 14 weeks at the Dominion Theatre. The last performance of this celebrated engagement will be on Saturday 6 January 2018. The London production of An American in Paris has been filmed for future release in cinemas, featuring the original cast led by Robert Fairchild and Leanne Cope.

Playwrights Horizons presents THE TREASURER, the world premiere of a new play by Max Posner (Judy) and directed by three-time Lortel Award winner David Cromer (The Band's Visit, Our Town, Adding Machine). Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons, the play will be the second production of the theater company's 2017/2018 Season.
