On this morning's TODAY, Al Roker gets a behind-the-scenes from Sting of the artist's new show THE LAST SHIP and takes the stage in costume to 'audition' for a role in the production.

THE LAST SHIP - the new musical with music and lyrics by 16-time Grammy Award-winner Sting and book by Tony Award-winner John Logan and Pulitzer Prize-winner Brian Yorkey opened on Broadway on October 26 with overwhelming praise for its emotionally powerful score. On December 16, Universal Music Classics will release the Original Broadway Cast Album for THE LAST SHIP, produced by the Emmy-Award winning and multi-Grammy-nominated producer Rob Mathes. The play is directed by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello and choreographed by Olivier Award-winner Steven Hoggett, with musical direction, orchestrations and arrangements also by Rob Mathes.

Sting stopped by this morning's TODAY to talk about making his Broadway debut as composer of the musical THE LAST SHIP, which is loosely based on his childhood. In addition, cast members from the show performed the number 'When We Dance.'

Today, November 7th, Sting and the cast of Broadway's THE LAST SHIP will perform live today. Also during the broadcast, the morning show goes behind-the-scenes of the musical with Sting.

The 16-time Grammy Award winner Sting - who has said his love of Broadway musicals dates to his childhood in Newcastle when his mother played Broadway cast recordings (CAROUSEL, OKLAHOMA!, etc.) that, to quote Sting, "I ate for breakfast," - just joined the cast of THE LAST SHIP to create the original cast recording of his new musical. THE LAST SHIP on Broadway will offer a special discount, effective immediately, for union members who present a union card when purchasing tickets at the box office at the Neil Simon Theatre, 250 W. 52 Street. 'Work is a sacrament, an outward sign of inward grace,' preaches Father O'Brien, the salty and profane priest featured in Sting's new musical, THE LAST SHIP. This musical that celebrates the men and women who still make things and who devote their lives to their work, opened Sunday, October 26.

Sting and the cast of the new musical THE LAST SHIP stood in front of 52nd Street's Neil Simon Theatre just moments before the new production officially opened, to serenade their 'Jersey Boys' counterparts across the street with a new rendition of the classic Police song 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.'
