Review: APPROPRIATE at Olney Theatre Center

I like to cook. It’s been one of my hobbies most of my adult life, and I’ve grown a lot in my skill over the years with much practice. My wife often lovingly teases me about all the space my cooking instruments take up in our kitchen storage spaces. Like most things, there’s been quite a bit of trial and error involved.

APPROPRIATE Comes to the Olney Theatre

Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' comedy Appropriate gets an intimate production in Olney Theatre Center's 148-seat Multiz-Gudelsky Theatre Lab, directed by the theatre's artistic director, Jason Loewith.

Review: LIE LOW at Solas Nua

'Lie Low' leans into the dark absurdity of life and the things that go wrong. Smyth’s script and the Solas Nua team show a thoughtful understanding of humanity in their work, and connect with audiences with that authenticity – and a few cheeky jokes.

Review: THE LEHMAN TRILOGY at Gulfshore Playhouse

Gulfshore Playhouse's production of THE LEHMAN TRILOGY tells the story of the Lehman brothers and the rise and fall of their financial empire. The show is based on the true story of the Lehman brothers and their family, and spans 163 years; the 3 actors play the 3 original Lehman brothers, their other family members, and many other characters.

Review: PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC at Theater J

In an elegant coincidence (or a charming conspiracy by the theatre gods), DC audiences will be able to see two absolutely engrossing plays about Jewish family life in 20th and 21st century Europe, back to back: Tom Stoppard's Tony award-winning Leopoldstadt next month at the Shakespeare Theatre and Joshua Harmon's Drama Desk award-winning Prayer for the French Republic through November 24 at Theater J.

PRAYER FOR THE FRENCH REPUBLIC Comes to Theater J

Beginning on Oct 30 and running through November 24, 2024, Theater J brings the timely and important Prayer for the French Republic to the stage. Written by the highly acclaimed playwright Joshua Harmon, the play was a Broadway hit, a Tony Award nominee and won the inaugural Trish Vradenburg Jewish Play Prize.

SPAMALOT, SWEPT AWAY And More Nominated for 2024 Helen Hayes Awards

Tonight, at a celebration honoring outstanding theatre on stages across the Washington area, theatre artists, administrators, patrons, and special guests gathered at the ATLAS Performing Arts Center for Theatre Washington's announcement of nominees for the 40th Helen Hayes Awards.

Review: THE WINTER'S TALE at The Folger Theatre

The Folger Theatre welcomes audiences back to its jewel box theatre with The Winter’s Tale – a story of friendship, betrayal, loss and second chances. With glorious production elements and strong performances, this production reminds audiences of everything that is unique and significant about attending a show at the Folger.

Review: INK at Round House Theatre

Cutthroat capitalism and journalistic sensationalist exploitation rears its ugly head in playwright James Graham’s Ink. This superb play is a sharply and pointedly observed tale of the rise of the infamous media mogul Rupert Murdoch (Andrew Rein) as he captures control of the newspaper The Sun and becomes the controversial sensation of Fleet Street.

Round House Theatre & Olney Theatre Center Begin 2023-2024 Seasons With INK

Round House Theatre and Olney Theatre Center continue their longstanding partnership and kick off the 2023-2024 Season with a co-production of Ink, written by James Graham. This Tony Award-winning Broadway and West End hit is an electrifying new drama, directed by Jason Loewith. Please see below for complete program details and ticket information.

LONG WAY DOWN, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and More Set For Olney Theatre's 23-24 Season

Olney Theatre Center announced its 85th season. The season includes past Tony Award-winners and nominees (Ink, Fiddler on the Roof, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), a World Premiere based on an acclaimed young adult novel (Long Way Down), plays that push genre boundaries like horror (The Brothers Paranormal) and fuse traditional folklore with electronic vocal sampling and looping, (Islander: A New Musical), a gender-swapped revamp of an audience favorite (Ken Ludwig's Lend Me a Soprano) and a wickedly funny and poignant solo performance that combines drag, food, and family history (Avaaz).

Review: THE TEMPEST at Round House Theatre // Folger Theatre

It’s clear that a tremendous amount of talent, effort, and care has gone into this telling of The Tempest, and those affiliated certainly deserve high praise. Do yourself a favor and go see this production.

The Edge of the Universe Players 2 Present A NUMBER By Caryl Churchill

On the heels of creating two audio plays during the pandemic (The Marriage Proposal, featuring Kimberly Gilbert, Jamie Smithson and Cody Nickell, and Laughter in the Shadow of the Trees, featuring Sarah Marshall, Holly Twyford and David Bryan Jackson), The Edge of the Universe Players 2 return to in-person producing with Caryl Churchill's A NUMBER.

BWW Review: WE DECLARE YOU A TERRORIST. . . at Round House Theatre

There’s certainly something timely about 'We declare you a terrorist. . .' premiering now, as Russia, once again under Putin’s control, lays siege on neighboring Ukraine, but Lord’s script also makes it clear that the show’s relevance goes far beyond the current war.
