Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov sizzle in a crowdpleasing revival of the Royal Ballet's 2013 production

The Royal Opera House will release three exclusive recordings of The Royal Ballet’s founding choreographer Frederick Ashton’s work on Royal Opera House Stream. Available to watch from Thursday 17 August, this triple bill was recorded in 2022, uniting Ashton’s modernist Scènes de ballet, the emotive A Month in the Country, and the rapturous Rhapsody.

The first mixed bill of the season sees the Royal Ballet celebrate a diverse cross-section of 1960s productions - from the clean and tightly choreographed Concerto, to the luscious opulence of Raymonda Act III (so commonly seen as a standalone piece). The two are separated by some picture-perfect Ashtonian charm with Enigma Variations.

The Royal Ballet's 19/20 season is opened in confident style with Kenneth MacMillan's 1974 production of Manon. It features a cast who perform it with renewed vigour and attack, easing through the testing emotional and physical demands of the story with style and flair. 

Carlos Acosta's vibrant production of Don Quixote offers an all-thriller, no-filler evening complete with exuberant staging, grand and detailed sets fit for a West End musical, luxurious costuming, and a stellar cast in which there is not a single weak link.

Winchester, Virginia's very own Shenandoah Conservatory's production of Guys and Dolls runs this weekend only, from Friday, February 24th through Sunday, February 27th in the Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre on the campus of Shenandoah University. The boisterous and witty musical is led by Carolyn Coulson (Director), with Rick Edinger (Music Direction), and Jacob Brent (Choreography). I was lucky enough to sit down with four of the show's leading guys and dolls: Taylor Bloom (Sky Masterson), Adia J Seckel (Sarah Brown), Stevie Bovo (Nathan Detroit), and Freya Falkenstein (Miss Adelaide) and hear about their personal experiences working on the Shenandoah production.

Variety is reporting that the world premiere of High School Musical 2 will be directed by Jeff Calhoun at Theater of the Stars in Atlanta, Georgia. The show will run from November 7th- 16th 2008. Casting has not yet been announced.
